The loss of five All- Scholastic gridluen and numerous other let- termen undouhtedly caused head coach Dom Denio to wonder: Can La Salle regain its lost Principals' League crown? Can the Cadets de- feat the perennial Diocesan Powerhouse, Vin- eentian, to capture that league title? How well will untested newcomers stand up under pressure? Septemher lst arrived. the season was underway . . . The first fortnight found the L. S. l. forces practicing at Canal Avenue field: on Septem- her l-ith the team, led hy Co-Captains Tony Cioffi and 'tLudge Cardinal. hegan stepped-up work-outs at Empire Raceway. After weeks of intense training the LaSalle eleven opened the season on Septcmher 25th in an independent tilt with Schnectadyis Nott Terrace. Led hy All-American Guard Boh Czuh. and fortified hy wing-footed halfhacks. the Terrace Titans crushed the outclassed Troy Cadets. The Blue Devils increased their half time margin of three touchdowns to a final score of 45-0. The opening fiasco made the rest of the sea- son seem easy. ln their second encounter the Cadets completely outplayed a good Burg eleven. winning their initial Principals' clash. I3-0. as speedy halfhack Tom Hcxamee scored 0 . an x ilinnthull all thirteen points. The Northcnders' offense was hoggcd down hy the superlative charging of La Salleis fast-developing forward wall. The next week saw the Deniomen contain the fahulous joe Conley and his Cathedral Eagle teammates. Again the line. sparked hy Joe Manning. Turk Senecal. and ,lack Will- son, played superhly. Tom NTCNIIIIICPTS Tl-yard run highlighted the L. S. l. triumph. The Blue and Wl1ite's third straight victim was Xvatervliet. Headed hy ,lim Kennedy. who made over half of La Salle's tackles. the Cadet eleven easily suhdued the Cannoneers. 32-6. Above: All-City Selections: lVIcNamee. Senecal. Ken- nedy. Barnes, Pasinella, Cioffi. The season's fifth contest was the grudge hattle with arch-rival C. C. H. S. The game. played in the rain and mud of Notre Dame field. was a decisive La Salle victory. Led hy NlcNamee's 98-yard touchdown dash and ter- rific line play. the Cadets rolled up an l8-0 score. as Coach Denio emptied the hench. La Salle had won the Principals' League Cham- pionshipl The first day of Xovemher found La Salle opposing Yincentian in a crucial Diocesan con- test. But the well co-ordinated L.
