At the start of their season, neither was expected to do well, yet both showed the power of LaSalle. Both beat a highly rated G.C.L. opponent three times on the way to their success as the baseballers beat Moeller and the cagers took arch rival Elder thrice. All sports at LaSalle gain some success each year but these two teams were the only ones in '77 whose success could be measured so easily. The baseballers were G.C.L. Co-Champs, Sectional Champs, and District runners up. Tim McMahon These 17 men captured the attention of the entire city as they trecked upstate to vie for the state crown. They came home without that trophy but they had already gained enough to be proud of as they were G.C.L. Co-Champs, Sectional. City, District. and Regional Champions and they finished third in the State. 108 . mm Mike McGeorge M's b'wWag WeLlAelt 76377Mamldug Lamas Addeombmtanmt The Matching Lancers finally Matched! in fact, they more than thatched. they danced on the field. Thanks to a week at band camp under the direction of Mr. Constance Sorlano, their movements were comparable to their new uniforms of last year. With Mr. Tom Luebbe '73 at the helm, these ded- icated musicians sparkled and presented the spirit of La Salle at all of their performances. The idea to rejuvenate the Marching Lancers originated with Mr. Frank Hoffman, who worked relentlessly with the Band Boosters to help the transformation. Brother Larry Keller also helped the procedure by adding his infamous tips of wis- dom while acting as administrator of the band. Highlights of the marching season included a trip to Freemont, Ohio where the band performed at the game. The best performance was undoubtably at the Roger Bacon game where the Spartan Band director was so impressed that he told Mr. Luebbe. Any time you feel that you are ready. we will invite you to the Roger Bacon Invitational, as you are the ?.?:27 best band to march here in the last couple of years. 4 ' - 'r' Pete Weingartner on the Sax .1 t no I ' ., One more excellent show is completed The renovated :13 f o t t . $ t u v I , J ' 7.7.3:; MI. A group of very talented and determined young men began a pilgrimage in late November of 1976 that sent them soaring into a world that every high school basketball player dreams of: upstate. Picked to emerge from the season as third in the i city, our eagers fought through the toughest schedule in LaSalle's history and came up with some delightful surprises t for Lancer Fans. Their trek saw them tackle and pin a strong ' Elder team three times, a first for 3 Lancet Basketball team. l The third victory allowed them to carry the LaSalle name and spirit upstate. They combined the necessities of talent, w experience, and heart, with great team play to reel off a I most impressive 20-4 record while gathering in a second I straight G.C.L. co-championship along with City, District, I and Regional titles. They were bound together with an out- i standing and unselfish team spirit that saw them climax in a thrilling trip to Columbus' St. John's Arena. This year's success must be attributed to individ- uals striving for a team goal. However, individual achievements are important and were most impressive this past season. Tony Roehrich, the most improved player from a year ago, was the leading scorer with 14. 5 pts. 3. game through the season and 15. 6 a game in the tourney. Ted Duggins was the catalyst of the team in the tourney averaging 16.3 pts. 21 game, rounding his seasonal average to 14.1. He joined Tony on the all city team. MI. Clutch, Bob Schtoeck, came through when needed as he was the key in the final beating of Elder with 20 points. Gary Windex Woeste led the team in rebounding with 10 a game, in blocked shots, with 3.1 a game and in field goal percentage, 52070. Tom Junker led the team in free throw percentage, 68970, and added 7.4 assists per game. And on, and on, and on . Reserve Football Lancers were the first reserve team in the school's history to go undefeated. They were also the first to win the G.C.L. title. The high point of the season came while playing Moeller at home for the G.C.L. title. The Lancers trounced the Crusaders by the score of 27-0. The student and parent support at this game was overwhelming. The Lancers finished out their 8-0 season at McNicholas as they scored a 26-14 victory. They gave their best, however, and finished with a '7- 11 record with an impressive tenth place finish in the South-Westem Ohio Golf Sectional. This year proved to be valuable in giving the young team a year of experi- ence. Next season they hope to shoot for a big finish in the league and a trip to the district. Robert Hamilton '64, this room of 40 young men broke nearly every record possible. Their most startling accomplishment, however, came in the 1977 Fund Drive. Before the drive even started they told themselves that they could break the record of $70.71 per man that was set in '74- by MI. Kennedy's Freshman homeroom. At the end of the drive they had proved their prediction with such resounding power, that a permanent plaque now resides in room 303, a tribute to their accomplishe ment. Nine of the ten raceteers will be returning next year. This year. however, was not a run of the mill rebuilding year as the team participated in, and did well in, two tourneys, the Sycamore Invitational and the Cincinnati Sectional Tournament. Scott Schaefer, the only Senior on the team was the captain as the team posted an 8-7 record. Junior Doug Nunn received the M.V.P. award and will lead the contingent of returning veterans next season. The record does not tell the true story of how the Reserve team played as the league was loaded with talent. The Reserves showed great potential for the future as Greg Glacken. Tuesday was highlighted by an assembly in ' which faculty members who have served LaSalle for ten years received a cer- tificate of appreciation. Thursday night's Sugar Bowl 11 saw McAuley avenge their earlier loss to Mercy as the Student Governments squared off on the Lancer linoleum. Friday started the Fund Drive and showed the G.C.L. that the Lancers were indeed the champs as our cagers clinched a share of the title. The week came to an end on Saturday with one of the finest Red and White dances that have ever been staged in the Lancer Ballroom. The chairmen of this year's week, Dreux Day, Mark Giordano, Pete Gambetta, Mark LaRosa. and Jill Aufderbeck. were responsible for making it a huge success. 4w 72:4; , 1W ' UCk F tXtJ H At-J FEM Roundballers in a different world.
