Couch and Reckner break up a pass from Moellet's receiver. Brenner back to pass at Riverfront. Shoemaker pitches to Schneider. Coach Steve Rasso's '74 Lancers. due to a rash of crucial fum- bles and injuries to key personnel. suffered their first losing sea- son in six years with a record of 4-6 . One point losses to Roger Bacon and Elder, one touchdown losses to Moeller and Dayton Alter and field goal losses to St. Xavier and Oregon Clay proved most frustrating. On the bright side, the Lancers were rated number one in the city Enquires poll for the first time in the school history after convincing wins over Withrow, Princeton. and Western Hills. Leading this year's team was Steve Scheid who was voted Most Valuable Player, Best Defensive Lineman, and Sticker of the Year at the annual football banquet, along with receiving a scholarship to Dayton University. The offensive line, under Coach Bill Felchner, did an out- standing job behind the leadership of Tom Foertsch, who was selected Best Offensive Lineman and has received an appoint- ment to the Air Force Academy along with Stan Wellbtock. Jim Hautman, the first player in La Salle history to be selected in the annual Ohio State All Star Football Game and is also the first to receive a scholarship to Notre Dame . along with John Glankler. who will attend Duke University, had fine seasons. Coach Bob Freemal's defensive backs were led by Rick Reck- ner who was selected Best Defensive Back and who will attend Murray State. Other awards given at the banquet were: Best Offensive Back - Mike Schneider, Most Improved Senior - Steve Sontage, Most Improved Junior - Dan Welling, and the Lancer Award - Tim Brenner. Outgoing co-captains Steve Scheid and Mike Kirchner will be replaced by captains Mike Cross, Mike Jester, Greg Niehaus and Mike Schneider.
