LA QALLE HIGH SCHOOL CINCINNATI. OHIO Q 7 9 1.. 7 9 334.44, Concern Concern is thinking and being conscious of others. If we have any concern. We will help instead of walking by; listen to someone in- stead of ignoring them. Concern brings with it the realization that other people have problems also. We can't be too concerned with ourselves and our own problems. We are never alone; someone is always with us to help shaxe our problems. Celebration A celebration is the overflowing of our joy. We celebrate afta a vic- tory. letting out the uncitement that has been building up in us. Memories and joyous moments are recalled as we maritime the thrill of the vic- tory once again. The celebrationeuds with an idea of newness - We have celebrated the old - let us look to the future. Involvemen'r Getting anolved - it takes hard Work and long hours. but in the end the rewards of personal satisfaction and accomplishment are plentiful. Involvement doesn't mean standing on the side and watching, but it means moving, working, and helping others to feel the satisfaction that you have found. The only way anything can be accomplished is if people unite. Unity is a vital part of life, with profound effect upon the behavior of individuals in all groups. Cut a person off from all group ties, and in many cases he will soon sicken and die: unite him in group loyalty and his endurance and sacrifice axe almost beyond belief. Experiences are the same way. In order to make any experience great, many things must come together as one. These include people, efforts, disappointments, mistakes, conformity, and independence. To many people, examinations only bring to mind the tests which come at the end of each semester. This is only one type of examination. Another type which is much more important is self- examination. Before one can start any- thing, he must first make an examina- tion of himself. If in this examination one decides that he is going to undertake a new adventure, he must analyze the entire situation and the details that it involva. K :13: Knowledge 0? Abili+ies In order to undertake any endeavor, one must realize his capabilities. If these are greater than every hurdle that he will have to jump, then it is possible for him to succeed Once a person realizes his abilities, he is able to have the con- fidence required to do whatever he de- sires. Expression Expression is the means of emptying one's self to another, Since expression plays such a unique role in everyonefs lives, it is only right that it should take on many methods. Verbal and written are the most obvious, however. sometimes the most important forms are not noticed or even experienced by many. Some of these are unconscious gestures, idioms, and absuacts such as art in any form. All of these can say very much if one looks for it. ABOVE: MI. Sauerbrey teaching one of his famed large classes. TOP: Seniors on retreat expressing ideas to each other; RIGHT: Greg Bollin expressing himself in decorating halls for Homecoming. 25 Creafiviig Every person has some creative talents in him. How Well developed they are, is what separates the artist from the rest. People axe constantly creating things: assignments, poetry, decorations, music, and moods. Creating a. certain mood 0: atmosphere can easily influence what others will do. Because of this, we must all pay attention and realize what these. moods can do to people. Also we must learn to control them. This is just part of making an experience what you want it :0 ha Search Throughout one's life, a person is always searching. He is searching for something he wants or needs. These searches can be for something small and tangible like an object he lost, or it can be as big and abstract as friendship, Each person's search is dif- ferent from that of anyone else's. Although they are different, they are related and many of the things at one time or another are the same. It is for this reason that people can help each other. One person has already found for himself what the other is looking for; because of this, he can help the other to find it. ABOVE: Mr. Feldman working with part of his class. LEFT: J. To love is to be concerned, respectful, understanding, and opened not only to that special girl in our lives, but also to all our brothers. Love is the key to the door which opens to us all our true interrelationships and intimacies with others, thus giving and shaxing our- selves with those who enter our life. It is in this that we live, for where would we find meaning in our lives without the satisfaction that someone is a better person because of the love we gave. Or do we really exist at all? These are questions we all subconsciously ask ourselves. We also seek the answers to this often troublesome dilemma, but we seaIch not in ourselves: we search in OTHERS. For it is in them that We discover the realness of people and the individuality of every human. By knowing them, We learn a little of ourselves. BELOW LEFT: Dave LaFary chats with fellow teammates. To survive this human existence on earth, We must believe in all thing; Belief in an all-loving God is the belief in all things. For from this Christian belief in someone unknown and unimagin- able, we believe in others and most; importantly in ourselvesh Belief in our- selves is one of the vital necessities of a meaningful existence. So we mustbelieve in the mysteriously divine nature of God if we are to believe and understand human nature of ourselvas. To Live Is To Believe Every be ,2? Hoping is a human quality that for many is the dream of a lifetime of happineSS and joy. This dream most often never comes true, and it is this test of human existence that must be countered by a specific hope that not all people possess: The hope to live alifeofmeaning now and foreVerr 40 For Hope Gives Life 4T NLET F . No matter what the source, be it a parent, .3 friend, or a coach, it is the little something that gives us the strength to persevere and excel. Experi- encing one's self in perseverance and excellence can give a direction in life that has until then been elusive. It often is a direction determined by the particula: field in which one excels, And can prove himself and his particular talents. half X I ABOVE: Ed Sunderhaus and Joe Kemper work with other volunteers at the O.V.C. Often, an easy life with much luxury and little hardship is chosen over one with little luxury. But can the individual man mani- fest the true Christian spirit and deVelop as a free, re3ponsible individual in a life style not destined to be his? Probably not. That is why many people choose a life of less indulgence where the true human spirit can develop to the fullest. Every- one faces this conflict some time in early adulthood and it often causes much anguish. But it is the one who accepts his God-given direction willingly, that shall be happy in the end Enjoymen+ mjoymem relaxes our minds and makes life a little easier. It raises our spirits and gives us a satisfaction that can brighten up a dull moment or bring pleasure to a tiresome chore. Enjoyment is the happiness of helping someone to overcome a problem or accomplishing something that we have been striving for. Gau reacts to insistence that he study quietly. 47 4B The expression of self pride can often be of two very different natures, the concrete or the abstract. Everyone has a self pride and he expresses, to the most part, in a concrete manner. We do this by sharing our accomplishments with a friend, a teacher, or our parents. It is also a need for everyone to reflect on the significance of an accomplishment and how it will affect his life as an individual. From this reflection, emanates the purest form of pride. A pride of human fulfillment. Reaciion Reaction is our response to that which is around us. We react to many things during the course of the day, many of which are different. Reactions can be joyous or sad, humble o: proud. We are constantly being stimulated to act to a certain situation in which we find our- selves. It lies in those who think and amenit too hasty in their actions. Patience involves opposing difficulty without complaining and facing problems with maturity. We must remain steady in our day to day struggle for achievement, and patience can give us the strength to do so. Fulfillmen+ The undertaking and fulfillment of a task is always the main goal of a person. These goals could range from having a good time to finishing a term paper. Some are enjoyable and others are not. Along with the fulfillment comes the rewards. They can range from self-satisfaction, grades or the finished project itself. When looking back at a successful undertaking, it always seems that the joys and rewards far out- weigh the pains and trials. ABOVE: S. Reynolds talks with Mr. Raider during a good lunch. BELOW: T. BOTTOM: D. Hock receives his ring. Thankfulness A person who has gratitude and ex- presses it often is a person who is appreciated. Most people usually express thanks to others for big things that might have been done for them by others, but don : express it for the smaller thingsl When a person realizes the importance of the small things in life, he can sincerely show thankfulness to people for many things. He can show it by saying Thank you, a small favor in return, or even by just a smile on his face. When a person begins to do this for everything that people do for him, everyone becomes happier and usually helps him more. E 1 $ 5 5. 58 Resi Rest is a vital part of everyone's life. For this reason, all people have learned to relax in diffexent forms at various times. When a big undertaking or project has been completed, the rest that follows can be one of the most enjoyable. It is often taken and enjoyed by all who worked with you and is usually ver refreshing. TOP LEFT: D. Ruberg, P. Seuberling and others enjoying a relaxing night at the prom. ABOVE: B. Schoenfeld and E. Nusekabel during a hard intramural game. LEFT: Seniors during retreat. iJa, w. J XX. i Mi .- I More Goals Completing an undertaking success fully is a very satisfying experience. However, the knowledge and satis- faction gained by this is not enough to keep one going for long. Since people are always in a state of becoming, they must undertake something else to experi- ence more and more. It is this reason that very often we find ourselves working on more than one thing at a time. Also because of this we are constantly setting newer and different goals to reach. 60 6'I 'The Senior Class Of 1972' IF YOU CAN KEEP YOUR HEAD WHEN ALL ABOUT You. This year was no exception. The Lancers had by far their excitingest and win- ningest season of all time, finishing the season with an 8-2 record - the best in La Sallels history. The team started off on fire, coming to the half-way point of the season with a 5-0 record. St. Xavier slowed down the Lancer Machine, but not for long. The next three games left the team with an 8-1 record, having beaten Elder. Purcell, and Roger Bacon. This gave La Salle a great shot at winning the G.C.L., however, Moeller took away our chances by defeating us 31-13, leaving us with a very respectable 8-2 record and second place in the G.C.L. Some leading actors were Dennis Van Driessche hSec. of Statq1 John Hoenemeyer hpresih denn. Bob Brunner, Gary Dawson and Sean Reynolds. Gary Schwartz played a very emotional and very difficult part as Her- bert Gelman, but Tim Wagner gathered the hearts of the audience with his fine use of a Southern accent in playing the part of Senator Seab Cooley. Many of the leading actors were upperclassmen adding great power to the performance but offering a stiff challenge to the future. 167 Spring Musical - Guys And Dolls The lighthearted musical comedy Guys and Dolls was Chosen as the spring performance. The leading roles were by Ken Hautmau, a happydgo-lucky gambler; Kathy R011 as Sarah Brown, a Salvation Army sergeant; Mark Knue as another gambler, but not so lucky; and Kathy lsler as Nathan Detroivs sweet- heart, Miss Adelaide. This year's spring production was the finest ever. 170 Woodwinds And Horns STANDING: D. Rais,M.Volle,J. Grote, D.Yeltor1, B. Enderle, T. Huey, F. Rosen, P. Flanigan, M. Herrmann. KNEELING: I. The 1971 Christmas Concert was unique in two ways. The first was that the Mother Of Mercy Chorus headed by Miss Judy Brown, helped beautify the Christmas Concert with their choral talent, Secondly, the entire concert consisted of Christmas music as opposed to previous years in which the concert was divided into pop and Christmas Music During the first half of the concert, each of the three groups entertained in their own. unique way. The Mother of Mercy chorus sang the Carol Of The Stats, We Three. Kings, and The Wassail Song, continuing the band performed The Christmas Party, and Sleep Little Tiny King, and L. S. Glee Club entertained with Do You Hear What I Hear?, Winter Song, and The Little Drummer boy. The Second half the two choruses combined to present Sleigh Ride and Christmas Day, and the Concert Band played the Themes From The Nutcracker Suite and the concert ended with the three combined units pre- senting the finale Adeste Fidelis. There, they help train and educate children whose brain has been damaged in some way, often through elaborate therapy. It is quite an ex- perience, says Steve Rakel, working with my own hands to help someone less fortunate than I. Sacrificing one of their free periods, the Clinic Crusaders exert much effort in helping these children. They possess a truly rare human quality of Christian Spirit that should be admired by all. ..Y.vue....-...L. u. tmnqu- w 0 ye 186 ADDISON, FRED, 4268 North Bend Road, St. Ignatius, Tennis 2, A-V Crew 1,3 AIELLI, LOUIS, 5781 Lauderdale, St. James ANION, KEN, 5531 Childs Ave., St. Aloysious, Glee Club 2, Track 1 ARSZMON, DON, 3394 Rocker Dr., St. Ann, Track 2, Cross Country 2 BACKSMAN, JOSEPH, 1361 Oak Knoll Dr, BALNES, BOB, 3436 Rocker Dr., St. Ann BARE, JOE, 3704 Blue Rock Rd.
