With a new coach, Mr. Richard Meyer, the La Salle 1969-70 Cross Country team faced a challenge. The practices started out light and worked up to a daily twelve miles in a couple of weeks. A team spirit soon developed which proved as an incentive throughout the season for individual runners and the team as a whole atthe meets. The Lancers' only home meet was against Withrow. In this meet both the varsity and the reserve teams proved that they possessed many topHnotch runners as they completely demolished the Withrow squad. La Salle fin- OPPOSITE: J. Shepherd, M. Martin, Coach R. Meyer. ished a respectable fourth place in the G.C.L. in which three La Salle men finished in the top ten. At the Elder Relays, in which major teams in the state compete, the Lancer squad tied for eleventh out of twenty teams. in the District Meet at Avon Fields, the harriers fin- ished fifth, and Russ and Mike Martin fin- ished fourth and fifth respectively while Mike Dourson finished twelfth. The two Martins then competed in the regionals, and finally in the state meet at Columbus, where they placed eighteenth and twenty-sixth.
