Schuster Wins Audience, Loses Trial George Schuster made Inherit The Wind. As Henry Drummond, defending Bert Cates tMike Knuet, who was indicted for teaching Darwints theories, he punched holes in the bible-based be- liefs 0f the people of Hillsboro, Tennessee. Dave Leigh played Matthew Harrison Brady, the fa- mous presidential candidate, lawyer, and biblical scholar, 'who helped the prosecution. The entire play was a conHict between the ttnew morality and the establishment of forty years ago. Inherit The Wind provided a chance for the fall dramatic presentation to take its place as an equal beside the spring musical. The large cast was di- rected professionally by Mr. Sauerbrey and Mr. Schwab and took full advantage of this opportunity. 27

Senior Retreats: Personal uYour Excellency, why canit you be a little more modern? The question was addressed to Archbishop Alter, present by proxy tat lefty at the senior retreats. Somehow it seemed very pertinent. For this is what the retreats were, modern. They were not just an updated version of the ttclosed re- treat, but something new and entirely different. The re- treats did not concentrate on individual meditation, but emphasized ttinterpersonal relationshipsi' and how to make them worthwhile. The atmosphere was informal and very appropriate: tiltis not bedlam, ifs intense friendship bounew ing off the walls and everybody acts as one? In this context, Mass became relevant to many seniors for the First time. So applicable to life was it that many returned to Holy Cross Monastery in the ensuing weeks to participate more. Fathers Bob, Jim, and Al ted the groups through exercises designed to break away the phoniness accumulated in 17 years. They helped you be yourself to the world and to your own mind. This was the very first step they said. ttYou canat be genuine to others if you donit know yourself. It was a rebirth. s .
