Homecoming week is more than a game; it is more than a dance. Homecoming is a spirit that pervades the entire school for weeks. It is the building of floats and decorating of balls. It is the football team practicing and the bonfire 0n Satur- day night. Homecoming is a feeling of unity that brings the whole school together. And Homecoming is a game. This year it was against St. Xavier. The spirit of unity infected the football squad, and the team played its best game of theyear. LaSalle held the states seventh- ranked team scoreless for three quarters, while making a serious offensive threat itself. It was only in the final period that Xavier was able to score. Though the game was lost 10-0, the team won.

Coronation Ball Setting for Peggyis Reign .l l. The highlight of a hectic week of chicken-wire stuffing, wall-papering, and a smattering of schoolwork was ttThe Coronation Ball. On Fri- day, November 1, the Homecoming Dance was held in the gym. The gym and stage were restyled as a courtyard and throne room, primarily through the work of Mr. Schulte and co-chairmen Jim Sullivan and Mike Foertsch. Approximately 375 couples danced to the music of old-reliable Pete Wagner and his orchestral Later in the eve- ning, Mr. Schulte was surprised with a plaque given in recognition of his outstanding loyalty to 24 LANCER PRIDEIS RIDING HIGH LaSalle. The main award of the evening went to Peggy Strasser, a Mercy junior, who was crowned Homecoming Queen for 1969. It was an enjoyable but very tiring evening. Only with a great deal of anguish did a large number of Lancers go to school early the next morning to gather wood for the Saturday night bonfires, or to the construction site of their Hoats to help put on the finishing touches. It was all part of a tryng but wonderful Homecoming Week which was dis- tinctively i69.
