Cross Country Seventh in District Hampered by unseasonably cold weather and a few untimely injuries, the Lancer Harriers, led by first-year coach Mr. David Fairchild, had a tough season. The Lancers opened their 1969 season with two hard victories over Western Hills t20-35l and Aiken 09-36, before bowing to Mt. Healthy t20-35l on their own course. However, the Lancer CC men bounced back against Harrison, beating them t15-40y by taking the first five places. But the Lancers, without the help of two regulars, 16 were in poor form for the G.C.L. Meet. They took a fifth place. However, in the Cincinnati District Meet, in which junior Mike Dourson won a med- al, they looked much better e LaSalle placed seventh out of 26 teams in their heat. In the last meet 0f the season, the Lancers were pitted against Roger Bacon, the team which placed sec- ond in the G.C.L. In a wellvrun race, Bacon emerged the winner by one point. The teamls prospects for next year look very en- couraging. Although next yearts squad will be without the services of seniors Bob La Chance and Jim Reuter, it will have ample talent in juniors Mike Dourson, Ron Scherzinger, and Jeff Newberry.

Rasso Takes Over; New Era Begins New football coach Steve Rasso said at the beginning of the T68 foot- ball season that his main job was to develop a ttwinning attitude? He may have done just that. The football Lancers, under-manned and under-sized, struggled to a 2-8 record, but there was something dif- ferent about this season. A new era for LaSalle football had started. It seemed as if both the team and the fans expected to win nearly ev- ery game. The Lancers, however, simply did not have enough strength to overcome the other G.C.L. teams, with the exception of McNicholas. The other win was over neighborhood rival Aiken. Af- ter beating Aiken in the second game of the season, the team had rough going until the McNicholas game. After a frustating loss to Newport, the team put it all together for Homecoming as state- ranked St. Xavier squeezed by them, 10-0. The Lancers closed out the season by losing to a strong Roger Bacon team. 18
