With the Cooperation of Sister Mary Emily of McAuley: and Sister Perpetual of Mother of Mercy, La Salle. at long last, had girl cheerleaders. At the hrst football assembly of the year, our boy cheer- Eeaders were introduced. along with four selected girls: Midge Honnert and Chcxyl Harland from Mercy, and Nancy Kummler and Barb Schneider from McAuley, Later, the addition of more boys and girls brought mem- bership of the cheerleading organization to twentwaour. The cheerleaders have greatly helped to develop a better feeling of school spirit around La Salle. The awards assembly at the end of the year was also es- pecially brightened by the presence of the girl cheerleaders. Stargazing Not Just a Hobby; IfEducates Too Stars, constellations, planets and clouds These are objects vcxy familiar to a group of boys known as the astronomy club Under the direction of Brother Alfred, the club has monthly meetings. On one Saturday night a month. the members comc to school: get their telescopes and go to the back lot to study the stars. The club has also been able to travel to tho Planctarium a num- ber of times. This Club was cstablished not as an outlet for a hobby, but primarily as a. means of education. Some of the meetings take on the appearance of a class, since members are also taught the characteristics of the planets.
