After several months of continuous disciplinary duties a person could be expected to become cold and overbearing. It is an exceptional man who can discharge his official duties with obvious success and still maintain a closeness with his subordinates. Brother Bede is such a man. Not only is he active in his official capacity at La Salle, but he also conducts the political science seminar. Also illustrative of his interest in the students is his encouragement of the Precinct Work on Election Night. He is certainly, and most fortunately, not of the stereotyped class of school officials we invari- ably picture when pondering a high school vice - principal. If he was, he would not be here. La Salle is not a narrow philosophied institution, neither is there room for a rule-reading, iron-fisted, close- minded judge on the faculty. La Salle is young and vigorous and the administration reflects this ima gg BROTHER BEDE VAN DUREN, FSC Christian Brother - 25 Years CL ' 63 I, j.i-i,«V ■ METAMORPHOSIS By M.C. Financial Aid Notes Seniors, especially those who will be off campus during January, are reminded that the Student .Aid Application for California iSAACt must be submitted by Feb. 1. 1978. The same holds true for the Financial Aid Form (FAF) which must be completed and sent in to the College Scholarship Service (CSS) in Berkeley by February 1. 1978. Seniors interested are encouraged to file the SAAC as soon as possible however are reminded they they cannot file the FAF until January 1, 1978. For any information regarding college and scholarships please see Br. William Carriere. Guidance Counselor. Centurion ad drive continues The Senior Class continues to humiliate the Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen by outselling them all in the Centurion Ad Drive. According to Ad Drive Coordinator Mark shark Valentine, the ad drive is beginning to gain momentum. This, apparently, is a result of the imaginative skits encouraging ad selling which have been a part of the announcements since the beginning of the drive. In these skits, various seniors, totally dis- regarding their images idid some have to ' .M preceeded to take on the masks of Don Corleone, Mrs Tidy Bowl and others for the sake of an ad. The results are what count, noted Valentine. Student Council revives Sno-Bail. begins tasic fo writing constitution Rainier Manzanilla During elections last spring, promises werfr made by various candidates who are now officers, concerning attempts fo strengthen communication between the student council and the student body In this article, we will attempt to inform you of various things g ing on in the stu- dent council isince plans have been made for activities in the near future which will require student body participation. First of all. let ' s reirace to tiie freshman orientation dance. This event, because of strong student body Involvement and support, turned out ot be a tremendous success— one of the most .successful dances in quite a few years. Financially, we netted $1,- 000. This brought the student council s treasury to $1,100. Because of the financial success of this dance, the council is trying to bring back one of the old traditions at La Salle, which ended three years ago because of lack of funds and student body support. This old tradition is. of course, what used to be called the Sno-Ball. There have been many requests from students of all classes to bring this dance back. The Sno-Ball. for those who may not know, is a formal dance for couples held in mid-December. This is somewhat like the prom, but this rl-anf-Q ...ill oi..o tho ry portunity to students to pa But, unlike when the stud price for this the student coi Co-Editors Brian Dalton, Matt Kelsey a share of the WritersRainier Manzanilla, Ray Grabowski, Mike Rufo, council will nc jamieson Winans, Sam Grande, Lul8 Polistico, Tom nftn ..c ' T ' c ' Im CarroU, Scott Ripel, Jay Winans, Russ Beckette, Richard ing to use som _ , r j It has to pav f Santilena penses.
