Now he is our minister in the battle of life offering us the aids without which it is most difficult to survive spiritually. The Friday morning sacraments, Penance, and the Holy Eucharist in Mass, for which we are indebted to Father, assert the basis for the true spirit of La Salle. When he elevates the host, we see the truth which we are here to learn. Pwudfofvoufvlwvdtagef ............ Pwzlaimtlmw, flwwlfcwdfblue ...... Lebus kmwwtl1w,LwQa!!e ......... ADMINISTRATIO Brother S. Martin, M.A. lCand.l University of California Principal To The Faculty and Students: It is common to find many teen-age boys who iudge a school good that makes slight de- mands upon their time, the quantity of noise made at athletic games, and the number of social op- portunities provided. The La Salle student body has set itself the task of forming a right spirit, characterized by their enthusiasm for academic excellence and a dedication to La Salle not born of emotional verve but rather of common bond between teacher and student in jointly pursuing goals that have lasting reward. Sincerely, in St. La Salle, Brother R. Emery, FSC Yours is a most proud heritage! As Christian Brothers' Boys, you share the in- heritance of an education, a character formation second to none. You participate in the tradition which has established St. John Baptist De La Salle as the Patron of All Teachers. As students at La Salle High School, you bask in the academic recognition already established for the school by former students. Thus, the glory and honor of two traditions are yours. Yet you cannot remain complacent. Yours is the challenge to further this heritage. Yours is the task to continue the construction of this reputation. Sincerely, in Christ Brother S. Senior stu- dents have always provided the foundation for self-government and for enforcing a certain amount of discipline through example and leadership of younger students. They are responsible for their ac- tions as a guidance to those around them. The Seniors are a pen which writes the destiny of their followers in later yearsy this can not be erased or forgotten but is always present after they faithfully depart the bounds of high school. lt is this final year which is recorded and remem- bered as the height of the student's achievement. The Fine Arts Forum, this year, has presented movies for the student body, Byzantine Liturgy masses, and sev- eral lectures on various cultural subiects. This is iust a small part of its contributions to the school. lt has supplied for the students information on a monthly bul- letin board on which the best Music, Art, Drama, Cine- ma, Books, TV, and Cuisine are listed. Mr. Alcorn moderator an 31 There exists a common bond between the teachers and parents in the LaSalle Parents As- sociation. Its main purpose is to assist and ad- vise, whenever possible, the faculty and admin- istration in the academic and intellectual con- cerns of the school. It has done this through many activities carried on throughout the year. These include the Parents Association, Building Fund Drive, the Audio-visual Department Drive, two parent's dances, and the important' Career In- formation Program. The Parents Association holds four meetings a year at which curriculum and educational topics are discussed, and informa- tive talks delivered by guest speakers. We can rightly praise this organization for their contri- butions to the student body. PARENTS ASSGCIATIC The Alumni of LaSalle are never for- gotten but remain still in the life of the school. Brother Paul, moderator of the Alumni Association, is responsible for this continual tie between the past and present. The Annual Alumni Banquet and the Alumni Varsity Basketball Game are but two of the activities carried out by it. There is also the sending of bulletins to the alumni about coming events and the proposed bulletin to come out this spring relating current activities of graduates of LaSalle. Two courses of instruction, Beginning Band and Advanced Band, have been offered. Beginning Band stressed the elements of tone production, the development of rhythm and the fundamental techniques of the instruments studied. More ad- vanced technique and musicianship is emphasized in the Advanced Band course. lnstructed by Mr. Ernie Del Fante, the Instrumental Music Program has as its main objective: To provide the stu- dents with a basis for an intellectual and aestheti- cally discriminating iudgment of music through the performance of the best in band literature. On selected Fridays throughout the year, devotion at Mass is enhanced by sacred music. The Choir, led by Brother David, pro- vides hymns and chants appropriate to the season. The only portion of the Music De- partment not assigned a class period, the choir consists of a small, willing group of Seniors. The La Salle Glee Club, directed by Brother Harold, has more than successfully proven itself a worthy follower of last year's precedent-setting group, advancing even farther the school's efforts in the field of music. Two shows, Christmas Concert and Spring Showcase, were programmed, mak- ing Glee Club presentations regular tradi- tions of the school year at La Salle. The Glee Club is also organized as an extra- curricular organization. Under the leader- ship of Dick Baumer Ipresidentl, Dick Steel lvice-presidentl, and Phil Wheeler lsecre- tary-treasurerl, the members set and follow high standards of conduct and performance.
