In scholastic achievements, those who gained the honor roll for the preceding Freshmen year received the coveted Gold L Awards, given to students who maintain an average of 90? or better, for a whole term. Our Sophomore year passed with a succession of memorable events. As the year closed and we refiected on the past events, we realized the remarkable work carried on by the devoted Brothers at La Salle. Here one is taught not merely the fundamentals of a high school education, but also that essential which sur- passes all others, the instruction in the doc- trines and practices of our most precious heri- tage, our religion. VVe returned to La Salle in l946, full-fledged juniors. The year, as usual, was marked with many successes for La Salle, especially in the athletic department. Despite the loss of their whole 1945 first-string eleven, the Maroon -Iuggernaut turned in a creditable performance, finishing third in football stand- ings. Our brilliant track team had one of its most successful seasons, winning all state titles, and also winning the New England champion- ship. One of the most worthwhile activities at La Salle is our annual class retreat. One cannot express the joys, the satisfactions which can be derived from such exercises. This time of spiritual meditation and prayer will long remain in our memories. We again went through the ordeal of our quarterly exams and Open House, and finally came the Minstrel, which met with its usual success. By now the juniors became aware of the top social event of the season- the Junior Prom, For some, it was their first formal, for others their first dance, but all who attended the dance heartily agreed that it was a great success. This was due chiefly to the efforts of Brother Patrick, junior class moderator, who planned the affair and made it the success that it was. After the dance the Juniors settled down to prepare for the final exams We looked forward 99 to the coming vacation and the approaching Senior year, which would make us the Counts of the Campus, Lords of La Salle-Mighty Seniors! The long-awaited Senior year finally arrived, and we returned to La Salle to complete our last term. After a few weeks, we held the Senior class election. This election, accom- panied by the usual joking and the indiscreet campaigning of candidates, has become one of the most popular affairs at La Salle. The football season was especially success- ful for La Salle. Losing only one game, they finished second to the league leaders by only one-half game. Our track team, containing three Senior class officers, Conrad Tetrault, Dick Tiernan and Dick Lee, turned in superb performances all season. Following the Grst quarterly exams came the long-awaited sports dance, which met with deserving success. The well appreciated Christmas vacation soon arrived, and after it we would look for- ward to events which will make our last year at La Salle our greatest. There will be spring sports, our annual Minstrel and final exams, all of which will bring us to commencement week and our final days at La Salle. Yes, we are to leave La Salle. No more will we walk through her corridors, no more will we sit in her classrooms and absorb the teach- ings of her excellent faculty. No more will we hear the choiristers at Christmas, nor partake in the religious meetings and retreats. Gone are the days when we will stroll around the campus with our friends, and no more shall we ,make that occasional trip to Our Lady's grotto, where a short visit made a gloomy day sweet and pleasant. Yes, we are to leave La Salle, but we are to leave with a sense of deep regret. No matter where we go, nor what we do, we will always try to carry her teachings with us, and inculcate into our every action the ideals which La Salle and the Christian Brothers stand for. l t
