LA S!XLLE ACLADEIW FXIX4 BOXING CLUB One of the newest and most popular of all the athletlc HCIIVIIICB at La Salle 1 the manly art of elf efense or self defiance a some of the Freshmen call rt as demonstrated by the Box mg Club When the club was formed shortly after the mid year exammatrons lt was enthusl astlcally received At the first m66lll1g ninety three boys with pugllrstlc aspirations were enrolled on the regrster lhe first serles of bouts w as pre ented on Fri day February 23th Brother AZHYIHS oseph the moderator had prepared a fine brll of fare for the boxing fans lhe offering of the club were well received for what the boys lacked ln krll and experience they made up ln zeal I varrably the matches m the lighter dlNl:lOIlb were recerved wlth the greater zest slnce they were faster and more hotly contested But the heawy w elght bouts w ere as good as heavy w eight bouts go lhe second serles of bouts could not surpass t e rst but lt equalled the first show I e at tendance at both sessions of the club was one hundred per cent and Brother oseph and the partlclpants ID the contests were highly gratlhed at thrs wonderful receptlon of their offering On March 26 51X members of the cluo jour neyed to Sami Raphael Academy for the r hrst interscholastic tournament and the flrst ofhcral Ill terscholastlc boxlng contest held Ill Rhode Island Ihe competition ended ID a tre as each team won three bouts But as the La Salle boxers were the vrsrtors they were allowed to brlng home the bacon m the shape of a srlver cup on w hush the name of the vlctor w as engraved Brother Azarlas Joseph hopes to obtam more noteworthy matches ln the future and we tru t that the boxing team will make for ltself a I'CpUIaIlOl'l for sportsmanship equal to that of the other teams Eighty fave NINETEEN THIRTY UNE

MAROON AND WHITE TROPHIES lhe trophles dlsplayed here are the rewards garnered by La Salles cross country and track teams smce the commencement of school m Sep tember l930 up to and mcludlng March 22 lhey are representative of the efforts put forth by the members of these teams lhe first symbol of vlctory to be acquired was the beautiful plaque donated by the Harvard Athletic Assoclatlon ln recognltlon of our cross country teams vlctory over all other New Eng land Schools In a meet held at Cambridge Mass Next came the R I Cross Country Cham pronshlp Meet at Newport La Salle emerged vlctorlous and received the handsome trophy do nated by the Llons Club of Newport lo obtain permanent possession of thrs cup ll must be won three times La Salle now has won ll twrce lhe R I Conference Cross Country Cham pton hlps followed the Newport Meet In hrs run La Salle come through with a perfect score to receive the trophy donated by the Conference rlhe next trophy won was the magnlhcent Fred A Hartley r trophy lhls was awarded the La Salle team upon wmnmg the Natlonal Prep School Champlonshxp at Newark lhrs vlc tory ended the cross country season and lmmedl ately the mdoor track season got under way lhe flrst trophy gamed m the mdoor meets was the handsome Smlley lhorne trophy whlch was donated ln recognltlon of La Salles Then the blggest mdoor meet of the year came around the Armory State Championships ln this meet La Salle took second honors and re cetved a beautiful trophy donated by the Hope Rubber Company The Armory Meet ended the mdoor season and as this goes to prlnt the outdoor season IS just getting under way We feel qulte conhdent that the La Salle boys will bring home more trophles thus season A L U M lNlG.0LDE,N IL Eighty four h , - l . , J H G , . , . h . - victory in the Y.
