LA S!XLLE ACDADE V to our second year at La Salle We were now the Sophomores of the school and entrtled to all the prlvrleges of a Sophomore lhese consrsted chrefly In pulling off all the stunts we could get away wrth making the most foolish but popular so called wlse cracks and generally acting rn a srlly and wholly undlgnlfled manner Meanwhile we were belng taken over the hurdles of Geometry Latrn and Creek by our nearly dlstraught Professors Nevertheless no one could descrrbe us as bemg at all backward rn the actlvltres of the school during this year for we aided m formrng the First Student Councrl we put many players on the football baseball and track teams we drd out but to put over the La Salle Alumnr Field dedlcatron and the greater part of us labored falthfully at our books and as a result vsere en tltled to bear the name of unlors after the smoke of battle becloudmg the exams had cleared away and the bodres of the slam removed BOOK THE FHIRD lnlcllrgcnl umors l'he umm year what a store of memorres that word releases At last we were juniors lhe mtelllgentla of the school supposed to know ev erythmg about everythmg and attempting at all times and on all occasrons to prove rt After the fine start made rn our Sophomore year many of our members returned to the varrous team and were able to secure posltrons on the champion football baseball hockey and track teams as well as the mediocre ba ketball team Meanwhile other large groups from our drvrsron gave their attention to the new Glee Club the Debating Club Dramatic Soclety Orchestra et cetera All the trme we were bemg conducted through the mazes of such subJects as Greek Physrcs French and Algebra by our faithful teachers but we were happy to find that most of our members were to become Senrors after a successful attack on the exams It rs well to note here that before during and after those final exammatlons the whole unror Class was finally convinced that lt drd not know everythmg about everythmg l fact they didnt know the half of rt' BOOK THE FOURIH Expectant Seniors Happy Day' At last the goal had been reached After a pleasant summer vacation we returned for our last year at La Salle on Septem strolled about the corridors seemmgly unimpressed either by the shrmkmg manner of a ripe crop of Frosh the antrcs of the new Sophomores or the overbearlng appearance of the unrors What a lrttle they all knew about everythmg' Ah but they would learn as me drd that the store of NINETEEN THIRTY ONE Fifty three N rg . , .l. g I . - , . presentatlons of the Debating and Dramatic So reallze that ln MAROON AND WHITE CLASS HISTORY 1931 I THOUGH we have reached a stage ln our career vxhere lt IS qurte proper to look seriously into the future ll IS vsell also to pause and glance back over the four happy years we have passed Ill La Salle For the purpose of securmg clarity and unxty and ln order to lmltate the style of Homer as much as possible we will dlvlde this hlstory mto four Books one for each of our years as students of La Salle BOOK IHE FIRSI Crccn But Willing Flcslrnrcn On September I2 l9Z7 the Class of 31 entered the beloved halls of old La Salle for the hrst time There IS no denylng that we were what mlght be described as a trllle green but on the other hand we were overflowing wlth enthuslasm and a more mllllng group of boys would have been hard to find Under the capable hands of our new teachers me were organlzed ln a very short tlme mto the different classes necessary to accommodate our numbers and before long we had settled down to the regular business of school llfe Studles flrst and Actlvltres second ln rapid succession the first quarterly exams the retreat the Chrlstmas holidays enllghtened by the way with our first Christmas parties the Intermediate exams and the Easter holidays came upon us and soon we were preparing for the Final Exams whlch were to admrt us to a new year and bestow on us the paradoxlcal trtle of Sophomores active part rn the actlvltles of the school but that was because we were m strange surroundmgs and we had not yet become entlrely famrllar wlth them However there IS no denymg the fact that we attended all the appearances of the athletlc teams ln large numbers and our numbers at the crety were legion It IS also true that we carried on actlvltles of our own ln the form of class baseball basketball and football teams and the weekly tournaments were enjoyed by all partrcularly who wltnessecl our feeble attempts bug Varsrty teams Little dud they the spectators to lmltate the a few years those small strlpllngs would be the blg brawny players formmg the backbone of La Salle s mighty teams BOOK THE SECOND Foollshly Wise The Sophomolcs After the Summer Vacation me were glad to recelve the little whlte postal that was to admlt us ALUAANGIOLDEN IL Flfty two J 1 ' .
