AZARIAS EORENSIC LEAGUE: In the Azarias League competition, La Salle won every one of the seven speech contests except dramatics-taking fifteen individual oscars and six team trophies. Among the oscar winners were Charles Lyons, William Sheehan, William Austin, Joseph Cordova, Francis Delahanty and Reinwald Bernhardt, who in A.F.L. and C.F.L. competition collected eight individual oscars in such varied events as oratory, extemp, debate and dramatics. Also doing well in frosh speech contests were Dennis Cushman, Peter Wertz, Paul Campbell, Thomas D'Orazio, Stephen Vlomis, James O'Hare and Gerard Steffens. A.F.L. DEBATE: Under Brother Edward the debaters, Dave Gal- lina, Hugh Greene, Valentine Lehr, Frank Murphy and Sal Olamia, compiled an excellent record. Their best meets were at the Peacock Tournament where they tied for second place out of thirty , schools with a 7-1 record, and at the New England Catholic Boys High School Debate Tournament where they had a 6-0 record, good for first place. CATHOLIC FORENSIC LEAGUE: During the 1956-57 speech season, La Salle Academy's varsity speakers were never out of the top ten in any C.F.L. contest, finishing fourth in the first contest of the year in Oratory and Extem- poraneous speech, rising to take the second place team trophy in December among 34 competing schools, and slipping to sixth place in several other contests. . Since none of these boys are seniors and will all be back next year, La Salle will be solid in both quality, and depth and should never be knocked out of the top four schools. A.F.L.
