il lflllf Gentlemen: I have been asked by your Yearbook Staff to write a few words to you as graduates of La Salle Academy. Believe me, it is a pleasure to comply. You have now finished satisfactorily your four years of High School. These four years have had and will continue to have a deep significance in your life, for you have imbibed, in a passing manner, or better, with a degree of excellence, the great and vast fields of study that are open to mankind. But whether you remember as you con- tinue your life, the binomial theorem of your algebra, the multitude of chemical formulae of your science, or the development of your country from its colonization to its leadership in the world affairs is not what counts. In these four years, you have been taught a greater thing than these tem- porary and transitory truths of natural learning. You have been taught, indeed, the most significant thing for you to know, that this life is but a forty, fifty or sixty year period of preparation for a life that will never end. It probably will not cause harm to your life if you forget the trigonometric functions, or cannot recall the date of the Louisiana Purchase, or some other fact of knowledge taught to you, but it will definitely harm your everlasting life if you forget that simple but eternal truth, that you are made to know, love and serve God. Let it be, therefore, gentlemen, a treasure, priceless to you, that La Salle has taught you indelibly, that if you gain the whole world, but lose your soul, you've profited nothing. The closing exercises of your four years at La Salle are called, paradoxically, a commence- ment, for with these exercises you begin a new era, you start your life on a new plane. May God bless you in ,this new start. Cordially yours, Brother Christian, F.S.C. Assistant Principal
