WILL La Puente High School need more science fa- cilities in the near future? Do the boys at LaPHS need new shower and locker rooms? These are iust two questions that the LaPHS Board of Trustees under the direction ot President Michael Pemberton had to face during the year. They were constantly planning and making decisions forthe rapidly ex- panding district. For instance, they spent much time going over the plans for the third increment of the new Los Altos High School with the architect after having seen to it that the second increment con- tinued under construction on schedule. ln addition to this, tor 5122930 they purchased 30 acres of land in the Otterbein area for the site of the fourth district high school. Other routine matters such as approving all purchases and payrolls tor the district schools and the hiring of school personnel took up much of their time at their monthly board meetings. Other Board members besides the president were Mrs. Louise Hillenbrand, John C. Wood, H. Dexter McKay, and John A, Rowland, Jr, Assisting the Board were Glen A. Wilson, superintendent, Princi- pals James A. Faul and Robert J. Schilling, Business Manager John J. Hamilton, and Recording Secretary, Miss Catherine Bidart. Superintendent, Board Members Faced THROUGHOUT the history of man the horizon has had a mysterious quality. We can see up to it, but not beyond. Discovering what lies on the other side has been a driving force in man's progress. Each time we have pushed back the horizon we have found a new one much wider and deeper and more intriguing than the last. Each has served as a rung on a ladder putting us within reach of the new horizon ahead. La Puente High School has had many horizons. Hav- ing completed the growth stage and reached ma- turity, the task now is to interpret the meanings of the new horizon ahead. The problems now faced may well be more difficult than were the problems of growth. Education will have an even more im- portant role than before, and our school must prop- erly interpret the needs of the future so that as we reach the goal now in sight we will be prepared for the even newer horizon ahead.
