As the year goes ... so go the sands of time, and we who are students at La Porte High School have much to ponder. It is diffi- cult to realize that soon we will say goodbye to some of our classmates for the last time. Too, it is difficult to realize that we are saying goodbye to our high school as well. A though we look forward to the time when we will move to the new high school, we also look back through the sands to those events and haooenings which will remain forever in our memories of 1958-59. Published by THE PUBLICATIONS CLUB La Porte High School La Porte, Texas i To be admired as well as respected, a man must possess a rare combination of traits including friendliness, leadership, aptitude, tact and sincerity. In our science teacher we find these qualities combined with many more which endear him to all of us. It is with pride that we dedicate the Reflector '59 to Mr. Pemberton. is 11? uner®® Published by THE PUBLICATIONS CLUB La Porte High School La Porte, Texas THE STAFF Editor-in-Chief........................Martha Gray Associate Editor...................John Paul Jones Business Manager.....................Barbara Baker Advertising Manager..................Georgia Land Advertising Manager............................Judy Baldauf Circulation Manager...........................David Gregory Circulation Manager...............Frances Alvarado Circulation Manager..................Dorothy Brown Art Staff.......................................Sue Roper Art Staff..........................Suzy Hultquist Art Staff.......................................Sue Fuller Senior Class Editor.............................Pat Rhoden Junior Class Editor..........................Brenda Dunham Junior Class Editor.............................Ann Floreen Sophomore Class Editor........................Diana Banta Freshman Editor...............................David Floreen Eighth Grade Editor............................Dian Zoda Picture Editor..................................Sue Fuller Picture Editor.....................Edward McLenna Sports Editor......................John Hambrick Sports Editor......................Charles Moser Sports Editor......................J. PEARCE Assistant Superintendent in charge of Curriculum To the Class of 1959: It has been a pleasure to have you as members of the La Porte High School student body for the past four years. You have contributed greatly to its growth and development in this community. The class of 1959 will always be remembered. Your accomplishment must be preceded by preparation. The ways in which you have used your time here will determine to a great extent how your future years will use you. May you find your field of work, become well prepared in it, and be permitted to do it — for these three accomplishments will bring you success and happiness. Wherever you go, remember that the eyes of your high school will be watching your successes and achievements. FAVORITES As the sands ran out and the school year came to an end, the stage was set for the last competitive contest of the year, the choosing of Miss Esquire of 1959. As the sands sifted through the L. P. H. S. hour glass many favorites were chosen to represent our school and to impress indelibly on our minds those students who were tops for another school year. We were working on the yearbook during the noon hour, and you know how that is. You just can't HEAR the bell when everyone is talking. And BESIDES that, somebody was typing, and you KNOW how much noise that typewriter makes. And then when we DID start for class, we just couldn’t quite make it.’ We hope you won’t mind writing just ONE more admit. You see, we were discussing YOU. Somebody pointed out that you are the most TOLERANT and CONSIDERATE person she has ever known. And someone else added that you are always KIND and UNDERSTANDING. A third added that you have more SCHOOL SPIRIT than most of us. And two more chimed in with the words FAIR and IMPARTIAL — words which certainly do describe you. Then someone had a word to say about your GENEROUS SPIRIT — especially where your own time is concerned. And somebody else added TACTFULNESS and A SENSE OF HUMOR. These, and many other qualities, are yours. You have been a friend to each of us. Yes Sir, that’s what we were doing, and that’s why we were late. So could you please write us just ONE more admit?
