Student Government Senior Honor Society The representative government of L.P.H.S. meets bi-weekly and attempts to solve problems suggested to them by the student body. One representative is elected from each room and two each from the study halls and band. Projects for the year have included a Homecom- ing float, Hobo Day and the sponsorship of assem- blies. A court is run by the student government officers to sentence school offenders. Mr. E. P. Bea- bout sponsors the organization. In order to qualify for membership in Senior Honor Society, the student must be in the upper one third of his class and must then be voted into the society by the faculty. The Honor Society operates the monitor system and collects absence slips under the supervision of Mr. M. E. Hyde. Three scholarships consisting of one hundred dol- lars each are given to three senior members of Honor Society who are going to college. Page twenty-six

Boys Service Club Future Teachers The Boys Service Club is one of the newer clubs in the school since it was formed only three years ago. Offices rotate among the members every three months, making it possible for each boy to hold an office sometime during the year. The club has charge of some of the bulletin boards and has other pro- jects for the betterment of the school. Their big- gest project was sponsoring the remodeling and re- furnishing of the school’s recreation room. Mr. Harold Hargrave is the club’s sponsor. This club furnishes opportunities for those girls who arc interested in the teaching profession as their vocation. At their weekly meetings a program is presented which will enlighten the girls on the teaching profession. This club sponsored a dance, the Snowball Bounce, to enable them to present a scholarship to one of the outstanding seniors planning to become a teacher. Their sponsor is Miss Ruth Walk. Senior Boy Representatives Outstanding senior boys arc elected by their class- mates to be Senior Boy Representatives, enabling them to attend local service club meetings. This year twenty-five boys visited meetings of Lions, Rotary and Kiwanis clubs. This program gives the boys valuable association with club mem- bers and their work in promoting civic projects. Mr. Harold Hargrave sponsors the group. Senior Girl Representatives These girls were chosen by their classmates to represent the class at the monthly meetings of Busi- ness Girls, American Association of University Women, and Women’s Literary Society. By attending these meetings the girls become acquainted with various aspects of civic organiza- tion. They learn what will be expected of them as adult citizens in the community. Miss Thelma Bceslcy sponsors the club. Page twenty-seven
