The usual way to spend a Friday night is at a dance sponsored by one of the school organizations. This year we paid a nickel an inch, depending on the size of one’s foot, to gain admission to the Shoeless Shuffle.” Instead of the Wearing of the Green,” the passing of the green, derby, that is, was the bright spot at St. Patty’s Prance.” As Christmas approached, we were in a flutter thinking of the events that would soon take place. Tops on our list was Belles and Beaus,” the G.R. Formal. At the Winter Carnival,” our semi-formal, we crowned Harry Turak and Marlene Larson, king and queen. With the departure of the seniors comes the long awaited Junior-Senior Prom which has been the topic of conver- sation among the girls for months. This year we spent an evening in Paris. Queen Helen Hall receives a congratulatory kiss from Junior Class president, Jim Kneislcy, at the crown- ing of the 1954 Prom Queen. Those pictured arc Marty Gross, Rosie Huycttc, Jim Kneislcy, Helen Hall, Marian Hileman, and Pat Wysocki. we honor our queens and attendants; Beauty reigns throughout the years at L.P.H.S. In the fall we have the traditional parade after which we crown the Homecoming Queen. The queen is elected by the student body after having been nominated by her class. Two girls from each class are nominated to be candi- dates for this election. The girl receiving the most votes is the queen; the next two receiving the most votes com- pose the court. In the spring the same procedure is followed in the elec- tion of the track queen. The queen and her attendants present the ribbons to the winning athletes at the LaPortc Invitational Track Meet. Just before graduation we have the voting for the Prom Queen. Members of the junior and senior classes vote for any five girls in the senior class as potential queen candi- dates. In a second election, the girl receiving the most votes becomes queen and the other four form her court. Page fourteen
