l History of the Class of I962 September 1950 was an eventful month for us, because that was the time we entered school. Eventually the enchantment wore off, and we settled down to our task of learn- ing. Finally the day came when we entered high school and started-the last lap of our journey, even though we had to begin as lowly freshmen! Our freshman year gave us a peek at what the next three years would bring. We chose the clubs we would join, started making money for our senior trip, had a class party in the gym, and went on a trip to Chicago . As sophomores we went into this business with a little more confidence and knowl- edge of what might happen. This was the year we had a bake sale, a car wash, chose our class rings, and selected our junior play. We went to a Purdue football game. We had a party at Pat Thomas's home' with loads of fun riding horses and eating a pot luck supper. The first week of our junior year each one of us proudly sported his new class ring. We soon had to get down to work to sell magazines and to put on our play, No Boys Allowed. We had an impromptu party on the stage after the play, and a losers-treat- winners pizza party after our magazine drive was completed. After Christmas vacation, we chose our class colors, lavender and white: class flower, white carnationg class motto, Tonight we launchg where shall we anchor'? S and the theme for the prom, Wonderland by Night. Our big project now was preparing for the banquet and prom, which was given in May at the Knights of Columbus Hall in South Bend. We also managed to have a pancake and sausage supper that spring. September 1961 arrived, and twenty -three members of our original first grade class convened once again for their final year of school. Immediately we started a whirlwind year that would end only when we had returned from our senior trip. Our first few days were spent getting accustomed to the idea that we were finally seniors! Dorothy Goss and Robert Burns, our former sponsors for three years, had left, and were replaced by Lois Smith and Robert Saunders. We ordered invitations and name cards, sold Christmas cards and annualsg received our senior pictures and cords! edited the VIKING, the annual, and the LOYALTY, the newspaper: sponsored a class play, an inter -class tourney, and an autograph hop, and make arrangements for Baccar laureate and Commencement exercises, plus the senior trip. Graduation time has finally arrived! The climax of our senior year would soon fol- low, and we would take our trip to Washington D.C. and New York City. Forty -five members of the class of 1962 would no longer be students, but alumni of good old L .I-l.S.
