He was here when the school opened, and he began that year creating highly successful glee clubs. Afte r his annual Kiwanis Pancake Sale, he very quickly received nine pies all over his face and back. And all he could do afterward was laugh! Indeed, Mr. Grace was never an ordinary man. He showed love and concern toward all his students. His ever-present smile and Nifty Neato! at the beginning of class often made our day. He also knew how to make us laugh by rocldn ' out on occasion, often losing himself completely in his music. His love and tears will remain with us always, mingling with all our memories of our junior high school years. f? D 3 Dedication 7 i ' . ' ij ' 5,. ' -? M 0 - 1 bv iiii . The cheerleaders helped the Patriots rock on to victory. They promoted great enthusiasm and bicenten- nial pride to our campus. During the summer they worked very hard to make and improve new cheers. In August they went to camp, and although the competition was very challenging, the cheerleaders returned with superior ribbons and a trophy. The cheerleaders helped promote Patriot spirit by selling buttons and ribbons and by having car washes, pep rallies, and a spirit dance in September. The cheerleaders certainly brought the student body and faculty much more of that Patriot Pride, creating many more memories that we will cherish forever. I hope it can be said by everyone that there has been at least one time in this school year that they have enjoyed themselves, either as a spectator or as a participant. The effort by the student cabinet this year was to make this school year the best ever for you. It was not the effort of any one person but the combined work of the student cabinet and the student body which has accomplished this. I think that you will agree that activities with many people involved are far more exciting than those with few people showing any active interest. And the class of 1976 definitely showed a lot of involvement this year. I have learned a great deal from the faculty and the student body this year. I am very grateful to all those who helped me for their time and co- operation. Most importantly, I want to thank all of you - the entire student body - for this oppor- tunity to serve you as your student body president. Student Council 13 The Freshman class was a very spirited one. They gathered together to create many memories which will be cherished for years. Gail Reese, as Ninth Grade President, and Karen Choate, Vice-President, worked hard to make sure the Ninth Grade class was a successful one. Cindy Vargas was elected Ninth Grade Secretary, and Cindy Childress was chosen as Treasurer. Both girls helped immensely as the spirited Freshmen sponsored the Christmas Dance on December 12 and the fantastic and patriotic Spirit of ' 76 Dance in January. Both dances were events which will last in our memories. The Freshman class also acted as the leaders for the school by showing the Eighth Grade and Seventh Grade students the proper way to act in a junior high school. The best example of their role as leaders was the way in which the Freshmen showed spirit and pride during Spirit Week. 14 Freshmen ra A J) Q S0 n-, D m x — Freshmen 15 tj Students and Teachers Unite Kirk Caroline Andy Adams Apodaca Ball Ray Kathy Tina Alfaro Arnold Bass Sharon Amy Gino Allbright Augustine Battista Barbara Barry Raymond Allen Auman Becker Chris Sue Kurt Alsaker Avis Bengston John Nick Jim 16 F reshmen Altomondo Baginski Bennet ABOVT- Coffee, tea, or me? asks Cindy Cunningham as she gets a cup of coffee for Mr. Bain. The second week of November was very exciting for all girls that were nominated for Miss La Palma. The students first voted for twenty girls, then ten, and finally five finalists. These girls were Margaret Cranston, Jean Dwyer, Judy Hart, Lori Mortley, and Theresa Potter. The finalists were taken to lunch at the Foxfire on Friday, November 14, and later Friday night attended the dance to hear the final results. Mr. Hoyt was given the honor of announcing Miss La Palma. The court was Margaret Cranston, Jean Dwyer, and Judy Hart. Lori Mortley was crowned Miss La Palma with Theresa Potter her princess. Mr. Hoyt then escorted Lori down to the dance floor for the next dance. It was a very exciting night and everyone was happy with their new Miss La Palma. 32A iss La Palma Lori Receives Crown of Glory Fairest of the fair! The Varsity Football team had a fair year, but the J.V. Football team took the Western Division Title. During basketball season the ninth grade team sought revenge and won the Anaheim District Championship, destroying South at Orangeview. Not to be outdone, the J.V. Basketball team stole another Western Division Title, also from South. As we went to press, the J .V . and Varsity Track teams were off and running toward another equally successful season. Also, the Wrestling team sported new red, white, and blue uniforms. If ever there were a championship year, this was it! 34 Athletics rbrk D 01 D m Athletics 35 Watts, Shelton Combination Proves Successful The passing combination of Ed Watts and Ron Shelton provided many exciting moments on the field. V Our twelfth year together was one of our most memorable and exciting ones, filled with activities and honors maintaining the high standards and traditions of our Choral Music Department. Our annual Pancake Breakfast Ticket Sale broke all records. We were quite proud of our new choral group, Junior Varsity Boys ' Glee. Back to School Night and Holiday in Music were two of the activities in which the glees performed. Our concert toiu- to the elementary schools was rewarding and fun. The annual Boys ' Glee Clinic Festival and the Advanced Girls ' Glee ' s second apprearance at the National Orange Show were during the middle of the school year. Finally, the Spring activities included S .C .V. A . Festivals in Malibu, La Habra, and Baldwin Park, plus our District Festival at the Convention Center. The Sharps and Flats Ball ' 76 was a big success, and the two Spring Concerts brought our season to a close. The Concert Choir gathered for one last per- formance at graduation ending another great musical year. t .11 f I. iir -Tn-k TOP LEFT-Boys Glee singer Jim Hatch shows off his tonsils. The eighth grade class won the Penny Race by a large margin during the United Way Fund Campaign in November. In addition to that, the eighth grade was also very successful in many other activities. They organized the Miss La Palma election and sponsored the Thanksgiving Dance where Lori Mortley was crowned Miss La Raima. Leading the eighth grade students in these activities were the eighth grade officers. Sharon Kyomen did an out- standing job printing posters and making signs for the Miss La Palma election and other eighth grade activities. No wonder she was elected President! Frankie Colacion was Vice-president, Shari Hanson was Secretary, and Janet Pavlovsky was Treasurer, All the girls did a great job. The eighth grade class ended the year by sponsoring the Graduation Dance as a farewell gift to the departing ninth grade students. All in all, the eighth grade class was a very spirited one which created their share of special mem- ories. k) ru FK fej m rJ] [Ji Eighth Grade 73 Patriots Work Hard Yet Enjoy Themselves a ' - ' - ' ¥ i ja :rlA .- ' ' ' Vl! ? The seventh grade students probably got mighty tired of magazines. They were involved in a special magazine sale early in the school year. They sold Time, Life, Teen, Reader ' s Digest. and many others. As a matter of fact, the seventh graders were the only students involved in the sale. The seventh grade students also took first place honors in the All-School Candy Sale. Besides that, they took the entire student body on a trip to Ireland on a Friday night in iVlarch when they sponsored the St. Patrick ' s Day Dance. The seventh grade officers were: Sheri Bartle - President, Jenny Nakamatsu - Vice-president, Becky Tanner - Secretary, and Richard Potter - Treasurer.
