i I X I ,J 7 hiiurhz 1551552 It is ten olclock on a Saturday night. This strikes me as sad. Either my social life has come to a standstill or I am engrossed in the yearbook. I decided to put this page before the Spring Divider for a couple of reasons: first, for a lack of anything else to put here. Second, because I knew this would be where I would complete the book. I realized at the beginning of the summer that the Yearbook was my last attachment to La Lumiere. This realization was rather sad since I had spent my last four years at La Lumiere. Well, I wanted to make my last impression a good one, therefore if you have any complaints don't come to me. I hope that all of you appreciate what to me is like the completion of my first novel. There is one person I would like to thank that I often took for granted. That person is David Kennedy. David was the one who made me hot dogs at two in the morning and made me stay awake the night before a deadline. Kelly, I want to wish you good luck next year, and thank you for all of your help this year. Pe- ter and Adam, my financial wizards, I hope you continue with yearbook. I am sure Kelly will be more understanding than I was. Jon, for all the time you spent in the darkroom, Clegitimate or notJ the pictures were always there when I needed them. David and Juli Thank You for all the time you spent writing things I lost. And to everyone that helped me I say Thank You! Well, it is time that I give up my attachment to La Lu and move on. I want to wish everyone good luck next year and hope that La Lumiere gives you as much as it gave me. Right now it is giving me a headache. They want- ed a place to learn, a place to grow, and a place to love. The setting was a quiet wood out on a lake. The peace and serenity of land were to reflect the simple oals. We aghave a home in La Lumiere. Our home is not free from troubles, but we bare them together. We remember our forefathers with respect and appre- ciation for going out to create a better place, a place like La Lumiere. 1 ' .' The first mixer We experienced in this school year was a great way to get acquainted with the new faces. Since then, mixers have been planned to release tens ions, relax and raise spirits. Mixers have also been an outlet for people to reveal some of their favorite groups and songs. A few of the most played songs this year Were Devil Inside by INXS, Saw Her Standing There by the Beetles, and Thorn In My Side by the Eurythmics. Generally, planned mixers were in the F.A.B. and spontaneous mixers occured on the senior patio. Mixers are a great tradition here at La Lu- miere, and we continue to enjoy mixers for years to come. Buffy works up a sweat at a mixer. 100 ,ai-H Mr. fone: asks questions in the Quiz Bowl 1 .yt 5. . N W , I This year Interim Program was a special event at La Lumiere. The activities ranged from video making to Event? Hopping. The Interim Program occured the week before Spring Break and it gave the students a time to learn new things and experience the unknown. The students had a chance to go to the Windy City for a day, take a nature walk, toboganning, and play poker on Las Vegas night. There were fun times, but in between the fun there were some profitable outcomes. La Lumiere has its first video tape, the students learned what an oak leaf looked like, and several students saw there first piece of art work during Interim. Next year Interim will he as educational, but how can it he as fun? - How can anyone forget zany games? In a last early season rush the players gave valuable practice and tree time to help Hnish the new held. Many dramatic changes were made in positions. Pitchers became catchers, catchers became pitchers, inhelders be- came outhelders, and outhelders came in. Yet some- how it all came together under Coach Mke Hall. Seniors Matt Hallup, David Langley, Tim Mack, Todd Maggs, David Santana, Matt Barnicle and Andy Vanderboegh provided a source of Leader- ship to get the team through the tough times. It was a successful year. Suprising wins occured out of dis- mal prospects. The Laker Team pulled through in the squeeze and proved to be winners. 121 This year Prom was held at the Marriott in South Bend Indiana. Guard 12 and The Harbormasters provided the entertainment. There were thirty couples from La Lumiere enjoying the festivities. People danced until the music stopped, and then everyone cara- vaned to Nicole Sherrit's house for post Prom events. Today would be the first time in several years that the Senior class would graduate as one. The speeches were given, the awards passed out and the Senior's received their diplo- mas. All twenty-eight of these students had a common bond holding them together. That bond was La Lumiere. After Graduation these bonds would be broken and all that was left was memories. La Lumiere helped us grow, learn and taught us who we were. Now we were graduat- ing to something new. 126 , A 1 .pi 1, 1 . The Money Woman: Cindy Pagels Jane Lindbourgh VGLLEYBIALL Beginning fresh with a lot of new talent, the 87' Laker Volleyball squad came out with high hopes. Also new to La Lumiere was a new Coach, Poncho Rodea. The new team was disoriented for a while due to all of the new changes. Even the veteran players had to change con- siderably to ft the new system. The three and eight record does not even begin to express the amount of growth that took place throughout the season. From Row: Katie Griffin, Kim Brodkin, Bridget Adam, Laura Sweeney. Back Row: Merribeth Rose, Liz Lovelace, Maggie Ramsey, Moira Martin. Nina Seme and Peggy Katz. ,.,: in ai? ' J. 5' in 32 QT Seme digs for the ball. Captains Bridget Adam and Kim Brodkin had to lead the 1987 Volleyball team with their pride and spirit. Early Practice started and the girls complained of bruised arms, and sore muscles, but through the complaints we could see the formation of a team united through bruises and hard work. The girls learned a lot of lessons in the I 98 7 sea- son, but none as important as You must learn to change with the changes. '.f SRs Y- ll.. 'USN . Y .t V N SSW 41-A 'T 'Y SGCCGR With a team of twenty-three mem- bers, coach Larry Sullivan set out to do what he could with primarily rookies. Conditioning and basic drills made up a majority of the first months practices. Time passed, and the players matured into a team. Problems came and went. Their record of 4 and 9 does not accurate- ly display the ability of the team. At times even their zeal to win set them back. The strong and forceful leadership of seniors Austin Griffin, Chris Griffin, Matt Halup. Vytas Kasnuinas, Captain David Kennedy, David Langley, Mike Mack, Captain Tim Mock, and Geza Owen-Fe- kete gave the team the drive to suc- ceed. ln the end, the spirit and unity of the team made the year a success. FOGTBIALL The La Lumiere football team of '87 ap- proached the season with many new faces and ideals. The new year also brought three new coaches. Coach Hall. a previous Jr. high coach, became our head coach. His assistants, Jim Beasley and Earl Fielding. gave our new head coach a great amount of needed help. For the coaches it was their first year as well as some of the students. The team was introduced to a new sys- tem that became a working system of at- tack. The 1987 La Lumiere football team had its first winning season. A 4 and 3 sea- son isn't perfect but it shows a great im- provement in the team. Much leadership was contributed by captains Ray Bonomo and Todd Maggs while help came from many ofthe underclassmen. The 1988 foot- ball season looks very promising as the coaches enter their second season. 37 Our 1987-1988 Football Team r f' ' 5 .7111 -- -twig.. . Work Squad was supervised by Mr.Ben Hartz. Each season a couple of juniors or Seniors decide to take a season off and they were given the title of Work Squaders. One thing common among the people was they did not find work squad as an easy out once they were there. There is always something to do around the La Lumiere campus, and Mr. Hartz always seemed to find a job for these elite few. 40 19 M X - :rx Q it i O A A . f I' Q' 1 A2 A . 0 Q9 Then came a La Lu e Winter 5549 ' 1 5: Q ' h www Dan Duerkop 'f fa 4,4 f . 1 oz fill-Ailllfx , , , . ,Q vo X-'fi if James Landsman and Dan Hruskocy, couple of cards. hill 'Q' U 7 John Bartolome smiles on his way home Nina Seme Alex Lynch and Maggie Ramsey ffm. Even the new priviledges some- times do not make up for the heavy work load placed on them. They have handled their burdens well. One of the many new tasks was to serve as role models for the youn- ger students. Here they have ful- filled .their duties well. Each student is given the task of tutoring students interested in La Lumiere. Mr. Elliott is the brains behind Blue Key. Jon Nicosia was the President for the 1987-1988 school year. This year Blue Key took its show on the road to students homes. This year also introduced the first annual Openhouse. aff J ' 1 'nxt , U ' if ky ' ' ' i ' 1- x Q Z 2 5 2 A 0' 'F 1 ' ' S. A. D. D. Katie Foley brought a much discussed issue to La Lumiere students minds this year. This issue, drunk driving, was discussed through her new S.A.D.D., Students Against Drunk Driving, Chapter. Katie and her followers pur- pose was to find ways to prevent driving under the influence. They planned such activities as a chapel with speakers from the group, selling balloons on Valentines Day, and a bake sale. One of the biggest accomplishments made through S.A.D.D. was their effort to stop drunk driving during Prom. Thanks to Katie Foley S.A.D.D. will continue to grow through the years. 50 S 'QXA QP 3 N '4 .i 5 Yearbook Every Wednesday, when students were go- ing to their afternoon activities, one group descended into the basement of the Main House. Here, under the guidance of Mr. Welter and Mr. McAdams, we began compil- ing our memories of the 1987-1988 school year. We worked together to fulfill our goal of making an exceptional yearbook for La Lumiere's 25th Anniversary. With Jon Nico- sia and Chris Bolan taking photographs, Da- vid Langley and Juli Barkley writing the copy, David Kennedy as co-editor, Adam Adelmann and Peter Kotz working on Ads, and Kelly Bridgeman getting the job of doing everything we neglected, the Yearbook was created. qs , U 1 I 1 , . - .- if - a A . , .r is , A ' , Y FY pg X fx Q ' 4 X A ' H ' ,X 4. - - x . -ff s . 4 0 ,ny r 0 N, - . Every Wednesday night as weary bodies straggled out of Study Hall, the S.A.C. was just being pre- pared. Then, all of the students would gather for the required fun such as mixers, quiz bowl, Win, Lose or Draw and lipsyncs -just to name a few. Most students agree Wednesday night activities were a nice break in the week's schedule. 1119 The Flame was La Lumiere's Inquirer. A lot ofFlamefans read the Flame to catch up on the gossip ofthe week. Some ofthe more intellectu- al personages read the enticing articles. This year The Flame brought some serious issues out in the open. The controversy became more intense every week, and by the end ofthe year people were dying for the next Flame issue. Sponsored by Mrs. Brockway, edited by Bridget Webb, and intenszfed by Dan Chon, Mike Ian- tria, Meribeth Rose and Jennifer Johnson The Flame left us all waiting for the next issue. 52 X-w ,J ililame ... ,,, 413 ,,...
