C9wa gfaopctaf wwe A tour personally conducted by Brother Erb through the additions to the hospital would bc the ideal way to learn all about what has been done Since that 1S not possible for all of you per haps this page and the pictures opposite will answer some of the questions rn your minds The spacious library on the ground floor of the 19 foot east addition and the solarrums on thc floors above are lovely Colorado sun catchers Studying rs actually a pleasure rn the library and although being sick rn a solarium could hardly b called a pleasure they are bright cheerful places for the patrents Two of the features of this cast end most appreciated by the girls are an entrance on the south side and a pretty tiled shower The doctors also have a new entrance the old back door now kept clear for ambulances In side by the steps rs a doctors register where they check rn and out so that whenever they dont forget the office knows if they are in the building or not There is a space reserved for their cars along the east edge of the parking lot at the back The first floor of the wing to the south contains a large krtchen and drnrng room Througl the center of the krtchen are the stoves and bakers unrt A tray counter extends from the food preparation unit to the dumb waiter which carries the trays to the floors There are cupboards along the west wall and the dishwasher rs 1n thc southwest corner A dretrtran s office commands a view of the whole kitchen On the east side rs a service entrance for unloading daily supplies The drnrng room rs light and arry and has venetian blrnds at the wrndows It rs to be equipped with a cafeteria bar and tables for four Second floor of this extension provides facrlrtres for pediatrics patrents There rs a three bed chrldrens ward a seven crib cubicle ward with work room and an additional room for clean cases with its work room At the rear are srx rooms for medical patrents or if necessary for rsolatron There rs also a doctors room a utrlrty room and a nurses station with charting space The old dret krtchen is enlarged and contains a sterrlrze for rsolatron trays and other small articles Room 205 the former chrldrens ward will be the sup rrntendents office and enlarged diet krtchen Similar to those on second floor are the doctors room nurses statror and ut1l1ty room All of the corrrdors utility room and some other parts on all floors have acoustical insulation and asphalt tile or rubber floor covering Each room for patrents has running water or bathroom On the roof openrng out from fourth floor hall rs a sun deck From here one can look over thc sanrtarrum to the mountains in the drm west or just sit with closed eyes and absorb the sunshine A roof provides shade rn part of the space for tnose who prefer rt There rs also a mattress arrrng corner on the roof This Wlflg has a feature not found rn the orrgrnal building a basement Here are storage rooms for krtchen supplies refrigerator units for meat vegetables and dairy products with a dumb waiter to the krtchen and a record room for frl ng x rays patrents charts and busrness records At the back rs the laundry chute from the floors above In the southwest corner an outside entrance leads to the laundry and rs frtted with a ramp for bringing rn bulky supplies A balanced frlc escape on the south end of the burldrng connects all floors with the ground One more significant change a happy thought of Bro Erbs is the transformation of thc former drnrng room into a chapel Darly devotrons held here after breakfast may be heard through out the hospital and sanrtarrum by a loud speaker system Its frrst use was for a serres of services the week before Easter This burldrng program has cost much rn money thought and prayer but it was born of acute need As we realize the advantages and comforts rt offers our patrents and the greater convenience afforded to doctors and nurses rn then service to them vre are filled with gratitude to all thosc who helped to make rt possible and to God who guided and blessed 10 I I I I .y - .
