CLASS HISTORY 0 Here we were-eight of us-September 15, 1932, at the Mennonite Hospital and Sanitarium Training School, l.a Junta, Colorado. VVe were here. Others were aware of our presence, not in an excited or worried manner, but rather in a serene and tran- quil manner. Wie were not ai class to, at first sight, arouse vague apprehensions. o We became acquainted with the student body, and with the faculty at an outdoor party held for us at the City Park. Here, too, we received our first true understanding of the spirit of the training school-the spirit of service guided by the teachings of Christ. s On Monday our classes began, and with them premonitions of hard work. Nevertheless, with high courage and quiet determination to win, we accepted the silent challenge knowledge made to us and are meeting' ii valiantly. o Upon being told that Dr. Hansen was to be our class doctor, the perspective of our training days was materially brightened. Under his expert care we have so far passed the successive hurdles that sickness presents to our profession with an enviable record oi' good health. Our satisfaction was complete when Miss Good expressed her willingness to shoulder the responsibility of class sponsorship. 0 October 129, we all remember, for then we received our uniforms-white ones. The first white uniforms to replace the stripes in the history of theinstitution. At this time, too, our practical work on the floors began. XVhat a thrill! For were we not making def- inite progress toward realizing our ambition? o Our Small victories and defeats we celebrated alike with ice cream parties, candy parties, or some similar diversiong our victories from sheer happi- ness, our defeats to again restore our buoyant spirits that we might the better perform our duties on the morrow. 0 September inevitably comes again. We are juniors now, with only six of us left. 0 VVe are given graver responsibilities. Our work in the special departments, in the operating room, in the obstetrical department and in the laboratory begins. o VVe feel that it is quite evident that the following verse applies to us: VVell done thou good and faith- ful nurse, thou hast been dependable in a few things, we will make thee responsible over many things. o Nevertheless we are happy for We can truly Say with Carlyle, Blessed is the man who has found his work: let hiin ask no other blessedness. He has a work, a life purposeg he has found it and will follow it. -CHARITY YODER 29
