Our Commercial Department This department attracted many students who had an eye on the future. The long-favored one- finger-peclc style was soon replaced by sixty words per minute. Balanced boolcs were a student's dream, but a three cent deficit caused many to consider the easy way out. Perhaps one of the most difficult subjects was a troublesome system contrived by a Mr. Gregg. As time drew on, the clerical students became quite apt, and the busi- ness world gained a few more among its members. Mrs. Covey Shorthand, Typing Twins Mr. Kirchoff V Our Language Department The Spanish, French, and Latin departments had a variety of bene- fits to offer to those who would talce them. Mr. Skinner and Mr. Ruiz taught Spanish with anbun- dance of charm and native color: and drilled students who eventually emerged as fluent Spanish conver- sationalists, with a slight American accent. ln order to help future linguists Mr. Skinner, in his spare moments, also taught French. Miss Shade taught Latin. and under her guidance, the intelligentsia ofthe school worried through perfect paraphrastic tense and translations of Julius Caesar.
