Class Prophecy of 58 Year 1968 Place Somewhere rn the Mrddle West Trme 16 00 Duty Parachute from flamrng plane Thrs rs the begrnnrng of our story as told by Roger Huston As our parachutes descended toward the ground famrlrar landmarks appeared We wondered rf rt could be true that we were landrng rn La Grange, Mrssourr the town where Sam Henderson and I spent our happy hrgh school days Srnce those days Sam and I had Jorned the Arr Force and become test prlots for Contrnental Arr Plane Company Upon reachrng the ground, I found my partner, Sam, not to be rn srght After lookrng a few seconds, I drscovered, by hrs yellrng, that hrs parachute was caught on the REA beacon pole After a moment of thought I rushed to a handy emergency frre alarm Wrthrn mrnutes the rescue squad came squallrng around the corner on two wheels At a qurck glance, I could strll remember that smrlrng face of Harold Ludwrg In the seat besrde hrm were Mrke Iacobs and Sammy Green Mrke was as whrte as a sheet By thrs trme several people had gathered around the pole An ambulance came screechrng around the corner Upon a squeakrng halt, two men came forward carryrng a stretcher They were Ray and Roger Iob from Job s Funeral and Ambulance Servrce Before long the rescue squad had brought Sam down Srnce he seemed all we began to look for a rrde down town Sam spred a blue Ford truck wrth Ralph s Plumbrng Agency prrnted on rt It belonged to none other than Jerry Laws He offered to grve us a lrft to the local telephone offrce After drs cussrng old trmes jerry told us that he farmed a lrttle on the srde, and had marrred a grrl from Canton When we entered the telephone offrce, we were greeted by another scboolmate Carolyn Bally now Mrs Berlstern After our call to Kansas Crty, Carolyn rnvrted us to supper that nrght She sard Robert was manager of the Westgate Market and would get home about 6 00 P M Whrle we were wartrng for Bob, we stopped at Wresemann s Cafe and Servrce Statron The Cafe was run by Charlotte McDowell, now Mrs Harold Wresemann Unfortunately they were both rn Plorrda In therr absence Wrnnre Garlock and Arlus Kramer were rn charge As we were leavrng Sam accrdentally bumped rnto the chef servrng a huge salad It was none other than the old star of the home ec class, Iunror Mrner Ever srnce the days of old L H S , Iunror had wanted to be a chref cook and bottle washer Now he has hrs dream As we were leavrng we were about run over by Barbara Weathers rn her sports car She sard she was workrng rn a nrght club and dorng very well 7 I . . . . As we pulled up to Bob s house, we were met by a b1g fluffy dog Carolyn sa1d Bob had gotten the dog from Faye s Dog Ranch The ranch was owned by Allce Faye Iones She was do1ng very well smce her entry ln the Amerlcan Dog show had won flrst place As we were mak1ng our way toward the house, we heard a car come around the corner and to a haltlng stop It was Bob He satd he had heard of our accldent and had come home early to see us We went lnto the house and were talklng over old t1mes when a loud knock sounded at the door Bob went to the door and there 1n gold bars and bralds stood Larry Ioe Bradshaw Larry Ioe told us that he had gone to Oklahoma AGM After gettmg h1s degree 1n muslc he told us he had wanted to see the world so he Jolned the Navy and they sent h1m to Sub School As our talk went on and on, there was another knock at the door Bob went to the door and there 1n h1s cowboy boots and a b1g ten-gallon hat was Donald Ienmngs We all shook hands and got to know each other agam Donald told us that he had gone m the horse and cattle busmess, and that he had bought f1ve hundred acres out around Dover As we talked about our other classmates, Pete told us that Beatr1ce Pamter had gone to Hollywood as an art1st and was dolng very well at the Walt Dlsney studlo and that she had made up her own cartoon character and had called lt Albert the Skunk Albert had made one cartoon and was expected to make a great many more Donald told us that Pat Hoyes had been elected Mlss M1lk Bottle of 1960 ln New York and, so far as he knew, was dolng very well Donald told us that he had run lnto Shlrley Wolfmeyer two years before down 1n Texas She was a top secretary to a b1g Texas O11 man and was en gaged to be marr1ed 1n a year, but he had no way of knowlng if she had marr1ed or not Pete sald that Dav1d Putnam and Iames Spencer had taken over thelr Dads farms and were two of the top farmers ln the county It was gettmg late so we sald good by to Donald and Larry Joe and headed for the sacks A knock sounded at the door Sam answered 1t, and there stood none other than the l1ttlest boy 1n our class lt was Gary Rlchardson He sald that he had just gotten back from a regronal tournament m wh1ch La Grange had won f1rst place The conversauon rolled along and sam asked Gary what had happened to Janet Fohrman Gary satd that she had Jomed the WACS and was a f1rst sergeant Gary left about three 1n the mormng We got to bed as fast as we could We woke up about 12 the next day and w1th heavy hearts, took the 4 o clock tram for Kansas Clty , . . .
