Student Council History - The Student Council of La Grange High School was first organized in 1951, the faculty selecting three seniors, five juniors, three sophomores and two freshmen as members. Mrs. Hixson was appointed sponsor and Howard Bryson was President. This Student Council set up an Honor Roll System which is still in use today. The first Student Council drew up a constitution and the duty of the Student Council was to discuss matters concerning the students. They selected parties and movies for the student body. Mrs. Hixson was elected as the sponsor of the Student Council of 1952. and 1953, and Virginia Tuley was elected as their president. This year two amendments were added to the constitution. This year the student council assisted in the election of cheerleaders. Alice Lee Solter was elected President of the Student Council in 1953 and 1954 and Mrs. Hixson was the sponsor, The Student Council took charge of the freshman initiation and election of cheerleaders. Additional amendments were added to the constitution. In 1954 and 1955 Sue Fishback was elected as the Student Council President. Mrs. Hixson was elected as sponsor, but Mrs. Bonney finished the year. A pop corn machine was purchased, the Student Council paying three-fifths of the total amount. Parties and movies were planned by the Student Council. Maxine Solter was elected as the 1955 and 1956 Student Council President. The group elected, as their sponsor, Mrs. Bonney. The Student Council took part in the P.T.A. Carnival. Live assemblies were obtained through the National Assemblies Program. Our President for the 1956 and 1957 Student Council was Vern Wolfmeyer. Our sponsor was Mrs. Bonney. The student body elected Marlene Mulsholt as Vice-President. Officers of Student Council were: Secretary, Pauline Eisenbeissg Treasurer, Pat Hoyesg Reporter, Murray Childersg and representative to P,T,A., Mary Jean Musser. A recreation room was obtained by the Student Council and in it were a soda pop machine, a candy machine, and the juke box. The Council sponsored a formal Christmas Dance and a Valentine Party. lt also sponsored Teen Town.
