During my stay in La Grange I also found out that two of my classmates were out of the country at the time. Harold Shannon was completing a round the world cruise in a new one man sub for the Navy. Charles Cunningham was in Africa hunting big game. Charles, I was told, took a trip every year to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. While in La Grange I decided to visit the old high school. The first person I encountered was a tall, familiar looking fellow. It was none other than Don Dillon, the head basketball coach of good old L. H. S. Don said he had had several very successful seasons as a coach and looked forward to many more. Don told me there was someone in the office that I would probably enjoy seeing. Much to my surprise sitting back of a large desk was our Senior sponsor, Mr. Griesbaum. Mr. Griesbaum hadn't changed a bit except that he now had a crew-cut which he said made him look and feel younger. Mr. Griesbaum said that Mr. Bonney had caught the uranium bug and was spending most of his time prospecting. My vacation was rapidly fleeting by and I, Vern Wolfmeyer, bade La Grange good-bye and retired to my dreary classroom somewhere in Missouri.
