LlSlC The band under the d1rect1on of Robert Helmer drsplayed 1ts many fme talents and abrhty 1n 1ts flrst appearance at the Nauvoo Festwal held Septem ber 5 and 6 They played a concert rn the exemng and part1c1pated 1n a parade The twlrlers rated a second among all tw1rlers there and the band recened a one The annual Culx er Stockton Homecomlng held October 17 was attended by the band They entered the parade ln the rnormng and played durlng the half t1me of the game 1n the afternoon The next marchlng festn al that the band attended was at I-lanmbal M1ssour1 October Z0 They marched rn the parade rn the mormng was en terta1ned wzth a free show 1n the afternoon and played 1n the mass band con cert that ex enlng The band play ed the process1onal and recesslonal for the carmw al kmg and queen each nlght October 23 and Z4 For enterta1nment one mght durlng the junlor Hlgh Tournament held the f1rst week of March a slut was performed by the band The songs You You You and Dragnet were played A pre contest held by Culx er Stockton on March 19 for bands ln thls dls tr1ct was attended by the La Grange band They played then' contest preces Also sex eral solos and ensembles were taken The La Grange band presented thelr annual concert M'arch 26 All solos and ensembles for contest were played and d1fferent types of p1eces were play ed by the band The concert was well attended and apprecmated by all The d1str1ct contest for solos and ensembles was held at the Northeast State Teachers College of K1rksx1lle Apr1l 3 Nme solos and four ensembles were entered The1r names and ratlngs they rece1ved are as follows vocal june Kmdred I trumpet Donald Brlnkley I clar1net Max1ne Elhs I bass clarxnet Mary jane Weber I bar1tone Phyllls Wlesemann I flute Murlel Hlxson I saxophone judy Harrxson I saxophone Lester Waganer I and saxophone Lewms Pascoe II The accompan1sts for the preced1ng solos were Mar1lyn Cox Ahce Lee Solter and Helen Sue LaVo1 Saxophone quartet Judy Harr1son Lester Waganer Lewls Pascoe and june Kmdred I brass qumtet Donald Brlnkley Wayne Musholt Mar1lyn Cox Helen Sue LaVo1 and Charlotte Fahey I clar1net quartet Max1ne Ellxs Melba jo Tlemann Loulse Mamers and Max1ne Solter II and drum tr1o Marlene Musholt Vern Nolfmeyer and Tommy McNeal The band entered the d1str1ct contest at K1rksv1lle Aprll 9 and receu ed a tv o ratlng The solos and ensembles that receu ed one rat1ngs at d1str1ct contest en tered the state contest held at Columbla M1ssour1 Apr1l 30 The1r names and rat1ngs are as follows june K1ndred II Donald Brlnkley I Max1ne EIIIS III Mary jane Weber Il Phyllls Wlesemann II Murlel I-hxson III judy Harrxs on III and Lester Waganer II saxophone quartet II and brass qumtet The band presented 1ts last concert of the school year at the West Qulncy Drne In Theatre May 6 At the last publ1c appearance of the band they played for baccalaureate ezghth grade graduatlon and Semor commencement held May 9 12 and l s The band showed lmproxement and dxsplaycd flne co operatlon through out the school year I I .. v. . . . - I Y 9 .
