' s 1 e 9 1 - v . . . . vQI'OpllQCy As the sun comes peekmg from over the ocean we Melba jo T1emann and Carol Green start on a Journey back home to La Grange MISSOUTI hop1ng to see some of our old classmates We have decmded to make many stops on the way and see the beaut1ful slghts Wh1le the repaumen are gettlng our yacht ready we d1scuss our plans and rem1n1sce a l1tt1e Although we are the wealth1est women 1n Flor1da Melba IS a l1ttle heartbroken When she f1n1shed school at the Un1vers1ty of M1am1 she wanted to be a broadway star but she Just couldn t make lt She s1gned up w1th TV and now owns two large networks and wr1tes her own shows As for me I fulfllled my 11fe s amb1t1on and became an a1r l1ne hostess I now own two alr l1nes of my own I am completely sat1sf1ed Well the men are f1n1shed so I guess we w11l get started G11d1ng across the ocean we head for New Orleans We make lt m two days When we dock we see another yacht r1ght next to ours and to our surpnse stand 1ng there was Char1lyn Shults now Char1lyn Reld Ne asked her where joe was Char1lyn told us he had some unflmshed buslness at Gulf Port on the outsklrts of New Orleans Chanlyn 1nv1ted us over for dmner and we accepted the 1nv1tat1on Go1ng through town we stopped at a dress shop whlch was owned by none other than Sarah Feldkamp We talked over old t1mes and we asked Sarah how come she never marr1ed She told us that she had become a man hater They all tr1ed to marry her for her money and she found lt out so that set her off men After eatmg dumer we deczded to get on our way At the dock we saw joe standxng there looklng at our yacht We were very glad to get to see h1m before we left We talked for awh1le and then started off aga1n The mormng IS so beaut1ful as we near the Port of McRae Melba pomted out the fam1l1ar1ty of the name and when we looked over to the dock there was have anythlng else to do Faye was berng a professlonal old ma1d She told us she l1ved 1n jackson so she drove us to her home We talked and then went to town Wh1le r1d1ng around she told us that Jlm Wolfmeyer also l1ved ln jackson so she took us over to h1s home We talked wrth jrm for awhlle He told us he owned a paper company After many years of dellverlng the Qulncy Herald Whlg he declded to relax We Sald good by to J11'1'l and Faye and were on our way aga1n We traveled for a couple of days and dec1ded to stop We docked at Jonesboro Arkansas We left the yacht and declded to look the town over Wa1k1ng down the street we heard the most awful clatter We looked around and here came a old Jalopy wlth Austln Warmng ln lt He had on an old torn shlrt no shoes and grease all over h1s face It looked as lf he had been work1ng on the th1ng that was supposed to be a car He stopped real sudden as soon as he saw us Aust1n sald he wasn t poor but just wanted everyone to thlnk so then he wouldn t have to pay so much 1ncome tax He told us he owned the largest used car lot ln thls part of the state The people around those parts called hlm Square Deal Warn1ng Austln sa1d he always got cheated every t1me he bought a car m La Grange so he was golng to try to be falr about all h1s car deals We bade hlm good by and were off once more R1d1ng up the M1ss1ss1pp1 we declded to stop over 1n St L.ou1s smce that IS where I flrst started my career We got off the boat and walked a few steps and a taxl cab just about h1t us The drwer backed up and asked us 1f we were hurt We sa1d No Then we glanced 1n the back and there was june Kmdred and j m Ludwrg june and J11'1 l were marrmed and owned a cab company and had two k1ds . , , . , . , . ., . . . Faye, She told us she owned the dock and she liked to see the sunrise, She didn't . , I1 1 -' Q .i . o ll u 11 u ll 17 . o Q ul D 9 1 They were trymg to get them to go to school and learn somethmg but they always sklpped We knew rt came natural jrm and june sa1d they had to be golng so we went for a walk down the street A huge neon sxgn read Alllson s Vorce School We declded to go 1n Melba thought maybe she could flnd someone to srng on her shows The teacher came out and to our surprrse It was Marllyn Cox Marxlyn sa1d she and Zach were marr1ed fwe years ago and that Zach owned a couple of prlntmg offrces Pretty soon Zach and two k1ds came rn He was surprlsed to see us We talked for aw h1le and then sa1d good by as we want ed to get to La Grange before the next three or four days We sa1led for about three days and then Srghted what looked l1ke our old home town It had lu ened up a b1t There were neon srgns tall bu1ld1ngs and ex eryth1ng We docked and went 1nto town There was mus1c corrnng from a large bu1ld1ng and there was a srgn sayrng Charlxe s Dance School We went In hopmg to see Charlre Wrsernan and sure enough there she was She was g1v1ng a rumba lesson Charl1e was glad to see us She told us that she had marr1ed Ralph Ludwrg who 15 now the professor of hrs own college lncrdentally Ralph 1S now one of the smartest men 1n thls part of M1ssour1 We sa1d good by to Charhe and started on to look the town ox er We rented a car and took a r1de out 1n the country Along the road we saw a marl box wrth the name Mr and Mrs Melt rn Tlemann Ne stopped and went to the door and there was Mrs Tlemann the former Alrce Solter Ahce 1nw1ted us rnto the house and sprawled out on the floor was Melvln We got hrm up and talked for awhlle and then we heard the norsest racket we haue ew er heard and rn walked another old classmate Nancy Rlch She had three g1r1s wrth her We d1dn t have to ask rf they were hers be cause we all knew Nancy They were all talklng at the same trme She had frnally marr1ed Arnold and they llved 1n La Grange They were all frne Ne told them that we wanted to go to Qulncy and look at some dresses We sa1d good by and headed for the c1ty As we drove ox er the brldge we notlced there were qu1te a few changes There was a large manufacturrng bu1ld1ng that covered three blocks and standrng 1n front of the offrce was Bex erly Cooper We stopped and she told us she marr1ed Chet and they had bought the Motorola factorles and were bu1ld1ng more plants We asked Bet 1f she wanted to go shopp1ng wrth us but she sa1d she had to prck up her krds at school She told us they had a boy and a grrl We sa1d good by and left We stopped rn at Keelrngs and there was Darlene Slater all dressed up 1n the newest fashrons paradlng ln front of a group of women After the show was ox er she came over to us and 1nv1ted us xnto her Off1Ce Darlene told us she owned all the dress stores 1n Qulncy and she was also a model ln all of them too We talked about old tlmes and then we sa1d good by and started back to La Grange We boarded our yacht and headed down the MISSISSIPPI for our home ln M1am1 Florlda Melba and Iwere very pleased w1th our journey and declded to do 1t agaln 1n the near future . . . u . 1 . . vs . . . . . . . 4 .
