Spirit Week Rainy weather didn't dampen spirits as La Grande High School began it's 1981 Football Homecoming celebra- tion. Besides the usual spirit guys and gals, Dress-up days, and assem- bly, a spirit parade and bonfire were also added to the festivities. The pa- rade consisted of a fire truck loaded with cheerleaders, the LHS band, the spirit court, and a float repre- senting each class. The Tiger football team defeated the Baker Bulldogs 42-O, even after the wet field turned into a muddy mess. The Homecom- ing dance was sponsored by the Sen- ior Class and was D.led by Dan Burns, from Pendleton. People came dressed in anything from Roar- ing Twenties to the future history of punk rock. Thursday was Blue and White Day which generated spirit throughout the student body. Friday was the traditional Formal Day and pep assembly, when spirit girls and guys were announced, along with the spirit court. This year the homecoming dance took place after a girls basketball game on Friday night. As a Junior and Senior, the students are offered electives that provide a variety of ways to learn English. Some of these classes are: Creative Writing, General Composi- tion, Speech, Drama, Mass Commu- nications, Oral lnterpretation, World and Bible Literature, and Mythology. Mr. Wyatt got permission to use the skating rink in an attempt to keep the seniors dry and happy. Some seniors huddled around fires in the rink while others skated or ate lunch. The rain didn't keep the stu- dents off of the gocarts. Those brave few were seen with mud spattered faces and sopping wet clothes. Sev- eral senior boys raided a local store for indian headbands and a peace pipe to entertain the crowd with a pow-wow. Even though the day was wet and cold, everyone seemed to have a good time, said Deb Hilde- brandt. Val Wallace doesn't mind the rain as she races around the wet gocart track 12 ' Bill Sailer, Leo Potts, and Rodney Haw- thorne don't mind walking in the rain. 190 SENIOR PICNIC 1 Darren Dixon awaits a wet gocart ride, while Larry Snyder hams it up. i SENIOR PICNIC 191 Nelson, Mike Moore, and Darren Dix- raig Wiseman, Jordy Mack, C Wilkins, Jeff teve , S ans: Pat Knight, Alex Nelson, Eric Yundt indi pen the sp rits of these n't dam Rainy weather did Mr. and Miss Mimir-1982 The selection of Mr. and Miss Mi- mir was by a vote of the Senior Class. At 8:00 p.m., as they walked in to sit in their chairs, the orchestra played. After everyone was seated, Ted Williams gave a spiri- tural thought. Then, Rob Countryman intro- duced the speaker. A graduate of La Grande High in 1960 and the Chair- man of the House Ways and Means Committee in Washington, Rod Chandler took the floor. He told of his life and how to look for the hu- morous side of things. Dale Wyatt, principal, did the pre- sentation of the class and read the class names as Dr. Gerald Young and Larry Fuller handed out the diplo- mas. When the Seniors had their diplo- mas, the Acapella Choir sang three songs to them. Cheryl Gregory read the poem of a graduate and Dana Fuller gave the Benediction reading before everyone marched out.
