At the Eastern Oregon Livestock Show the LaGrande team took first place in the Livestock judging contest and Kenneth Hill was the high scoring individual of the contest. During the summer the boys found employment on the F.F.A., fifteen acre farm. From the sale of alfalfa and other products grown on the farm the chapter was able to raise large funds. mer months two swimming parties at Cove were very successful. In the fall, in preparation for State Fair Competition the F.F.A. team judged livestock at Walla Walla, At the beginning of the 49-50 school year Bob Flaherty, Bob Berry Kenneth Hill and Jack McGregor judged livestock at the Oregon State Fair, winning lst place in team com- petition and Kenneth Hill was champ- ion judge ofthe contest. This club strives to promote efforts of health, sportsmanship, physical efficiency, athletic accomplishments and love of the out-of-doors, Any girl interested has the opportunity to join. All she must do is earn points by participating in intramural sports and out-of-school lei- sure time activities, To be eligible for membershipa girl must earn 50 points. Itis not possible for one girl to earn more than 10 points in any one sport in any one year, The G.A.A. of LaGrande High School is a member of the state point system which standardized the point system used throughout Oregon. The points earned by a class in tournaments are added to the total intramural points of that class and are a definite factor in deciding the winner of the annual Intramural Trophy. Some sports in which the girls participate under the intramural system are volleyball, basketball, table tennis, softball, and touch football. Besides the intramuralactivities, members of this organization meet on several evenings throughout the school year for potluck dinners with games afterward. G.A.A. is a popular and active club in L.H.S. and it is certainly a worthwhile one. ,V I ' vi - !',i ' v X 'ff cefff Ni N JN X U A A 'Q ? 9 fffiggf GIRIS llAGUllHWIClRS IL W lf fxf t, DQRA Glfpfts, !-1uRuEE wmsom, Vf1AR.JwRIE Hum., MARILYN Smsu. One of the main goals of the class was to have the Tiger Hi-Lights ready for distribution once every two weeks, In order to accomplish this, there was a great amount of be- hind the scenes work necessary. The Class was organized into various groups, each with definite duties to perform. The business staff took care of advertising, ad layouts, and distribution of papers to LaGrande merchants. All high school sports,as well as rnanyiromjunior high, were cover- ed by the sports staff. A general staff had charge of such duties as exchanging papers with other schools, writing both feature and news stories, editorials, copyreading, and typing. During the year everyone had a chance to work on all types of stories,1rorn features to editorials, This gave each person a chance to find what he was best sutied to writing. Later on, each person was assigned to a regular beat which meant that he had definite stories to get in each time the paper came out. However, anyone who wished, still had a chance to work on outside stories of interest at any time, A very creditable job was done on the Tiger Hi-Lights during the entire year. Journalism students enjoyed the wide variety of experiences that their work on the paper provided. Long remembered by each person will be his part in creat- ing lhCr1UwSpaper, the pride ol seeing his first story in print, the fun ol working with others, and above all--the feeling of havinu contributed to something really worthwhile HGH!
