How would you like to have a pet ghost? A nice, tame one that would be easy to take care of, sleep in your closet, do your work, or frighten people out of their wits-it sounds strange, but different. And that's why Great Caesar's Ghost is one of the funniest, most unusual farces ever written for the amateur stage. For when Phineas Farthingale comes to visit his niece, Helen Maxwell, he brings with him the fun-loving, temperamental, protective ghost of an Inca chief whom Phineas once befriended on a trip to South America. The ghost is never seen, but what he does in his humorous way makes him one of the most real characters of the play. For Helen is having trouble convincing her mother that Tommy Tucker is the one boy for her. So when Phineas, Aunt Polly, Helen's go- getter aunt, and the Ghost all start to help her, it's hard to imagine iust how much fun can develop unless you read or see the play. Of course, Mrs. Maxwell and her scatter-brained friend, Phoebe De Royster, are the victims. But before the final hilarious curtain falls, there is trouble also for Dick, a neighbor boy, Hattie, the cook, and Deborah De Royster, who has until this time been under her mother's domination. When Esther, the cute little maid, is hypnotized by Mahiah, the mysterious mystic, the audience had the time of its life. !
