Small R The commercial department under the supervision of Miss Lorena Riley offers five courses in commerce. Commercial Arithmetic, offered to the sophomores, has 18 students who study the mathematical problems of commerce. Typewriting I and Bookkeep- ing are offered Uoboth juniors and seniors. Students may take these courses either for per- sonal use or the development of vocational skill. As preparation to enter a beginning office position re- quiring stenography, Secre- tarial Training and Shorthand are offered kJSenior students. Twelve girls are enrolled in these courses mastering short- hand theory and transcription, developing increased type- writing skill, and studying various office problems and procedures. t Pictured below is the Wbrld Geography Class with their 1nStfUCt?T, MT- Kasper. Miss Mitchell instructs the English III group, and English I and II are taught by Mrs Riley. leibers' of the English II class are shown while working on a speech unit. Bill Gomer- dinger is the student speaking to the class. The study hall is in use each period during the day. At the front of the room is the library which contains about 2,000 volumes. Educa- tional magazines are also available for use by the stu- dents. The librarians in charge of checking books in and out are Naomi Hammett, Barbara Hays, Esther Phalen, larcia Zi mer- man, Margie Johnson, Berneice Long, Ethel Rockwell, and Allen Crisler. The rec- ord of the sixteen-year-old drivers than that of drivers forty-five to fifty 100 childrens high school is nine times worse years old. Of ff age today5l2 willke killed or permanently injured in automobile accidents, and 63 will be injured or involved in such an acci- dent before they reach the age of 65. Only 25, one- fourth, will go through life without such a mis- hap. LaCygne RuralHigh School has startedthe driver edu- helv cation course to reduce this numbercf acci- dents and fatalities. This this is the first year course has been given in Linn County. During thebvo semesters forty-one students have been enrolled in Driver Training. Classroom instruction, discussion, and road in- struction while at the wheel of a dual-controlled auto- mobile constitute the main activity of the class.
