Working from the beginning of the school year to the middle of March, the yearbook staff strove to produce an annual, in every way a little better than the last. From sched- uling pictures to proof reading final copies, the staff members worked after school, Satur- days, and even a few holidays, to meet their deadlines. Advisors for this year's LA CUMBREAN staff were: Mr. Harry Sims, General Advisor: Mr. Mal Parker, Layout and Copy Advisor: Mr. Frank Brownie, Business Advisor: and Mrs. Betsy Couch, Art Advisor. Mr. George Guntermann and Mr. Dennis Staley were Photog- raphy Advisors. .V-.-.-. we SPEC! L LITES, the Learning Instructors of Tomorrow's Educational System is composed of students who re interested in the teaching profession as a future ccupation. Through this organization its members re able to become more aware of problems and ossibilities which teachers sometimes face. To gain better insight and realize more fully the responsi- ilities of teachers, each LITE is assigned a faculty ember to assist throughout the year. Activities during this past school year included ips to elementary schools, films on education, and uest speakers. Members of this year's LITES are ictured at right. X Usherettes is an honorary group made up of girls who are in the National Junior Honor Society. Their job is to take tickets, hand out programs, and seat the visitors who attend school performances, such as the Christmas Show, Band and Orchestra Show, Choral Festival, and the Spring Show. This year for the first time since they were organized the girls made their own uniforms. To display our school colors these outfits consisted of dark blue skirts, white blouses, and gold berets. Officers of the Usherettes are Durene Weiler, president: Eileen Burgess, vice-president and Teresa Koop, secretary- treasurer. Members forming the L are Susan Deckenback, Debbie Morley, Barbara Benes, Sarah Russell, Hanan Yaqub, Tricia Thorsell, Wendy Hicks, and Eileen Burgess. U RECORD THE EVENTS OF Tl-IE YEAIZ. The main job of the Journalism Class was the pro- fiuction of La Cumbre's weekly paper, the LANCERS' SCROLL. By actually publishing a newspaper of their own, the staff could more easily learn and understand the techniques of journalism. To gain more knowledge, the class visited the News Press, listened to various speakers, and were guests at UCSB to help the EL GAUCHO staff with one of their issues.
