Mr. Eoff and Mr. Padilla, as all math teachers, take a personal interest in their students MNH WAS A QUCCEQQION OF PROBLEMS Math was the favorite of many students this year. Seventh graders found mang new math terms and concepts in their first year at La Cumbre. Soon, though, they got into the swing of it and were doing well. The eighth grade delved further into the mystery of numbers, using those formerly baffling properties such as the commutative, associative, and distributive principles. The ninth grade studied either General Math, which went over unclear points and introduced new ones, or Algebra, which, although confusing at times, went pretty well. fav ' .i ' A r , 1 . QCIENCE PPDMPTED MANY QUEQHONQ Science was fun and interesting this year. Besides the usual class work with the textbook, students did many interesting things. Several guest speakers from various fields came in to enlighten students about their areas of scientific study. Field trips were made to the Memorial Cancer Foundation, the Museum Planetarium, tidepools, and several other places. By such field trips, students were able to experience seeing some of the things discussed in their classes. Many students worked with telescopes and microscopes trying to see into the mystery of the minute and the vast. Some students took part in the dissection of preserved animals and plants. Many students took part in the Intra-School Sci- ence Fair. Below, several of Mr. Cudney's eighth graders think they know the right answer. Typing is taught in order to give students the opportunity to acquire a very useful skill which can be used now or in later years. Teachers alternated speed drives with accuracy drives. Besides the many typing drills, students enjoyed typing to records, typing with the speed projector, and art typing.
