English was difficult enough, but now we had to learn the pronunciation and grammar of a whole new language. Spanish, French, and Latin are the languages offered to L.C. students. Ninth graders studied their chosen language more ex- tensively dealing with more difficult grammar and more conversational practice. ln the fall, the Spanish Club was formed for students interested in more practice with the language. Also, for the second time, the Rhudean Reeves Memorial Award was given to a deserving ninth grade Spanish student. Correct proununciation is an integral part of language learning. OUPJMANY COMMUNICATION QKJLLQ. The Reading Department teachers endeavored to introduce a new program to Reading classes this year as students went on field trips in the Santa Barbara area These students went to the police station, the News- Press, the airport, a hospital, Cable T. V. and many g other interesting places. Also, many speakers came to the classes to speak and to answer many student ques- tions. All of this came about through Project Opportu- nity which, among other things, familiarizes the stu- dent with vocational opportunities in the community. Both the teachers and the students enjoyed these worthwhile activities. ng . ills- . 42' I 4. . , 'E u-Yr' I Q . l 3 I , 5, - ' 9, ' ,JW K. he Qvrx-. lf- Mrs. Nancy Lorden, Reading Dept.
