In September 19144 we began our high school career as 'Green Frosh.' soon overcarre that name by showing enthusiasm in all school activities. Durin our Sophomore year we bestowed the Initiation ceremony on the coming freshmen. These first two years of high school slipped away very quickly and before we knew it we were upperclassmen. Our first task as junior's was the Junior Senior Prom. we chose as our theme 'Serenade in Blue.' On May ist we again honored the Seniors with the Junior-Senior Banquet. D Our next year, our last year, was perhaps the most excitingg with gradua- tion and all the activities of a senior. we wish.to thank Mr. Rennord, our class advisor for our junior and senior years for has patience and understand- :ng during these two years. 9 DIANE Mc COMIC! Because then we felt like we were something at L.H.S. and because we would call ourselves upper classmen. we have sixteen menbers in our class, eleven boys and five gurls. Nearly all the boys have turned out for sports and have made a very good showing.. Hanlefv, Fohn, and Bailey have done real good in basketball. Also many o our fel ows have done good on the gridnron. . The Jr. Sr. Prom was held April 3rd at the Country Club. we spent a lot of time planning this and working toward a success. Our final send off to the Seniors was a banquet which was very much enjoyed by all. This has been one of our most .memorable years in high school, what with the Prom and Banquet. It no doubt as one year none of us will forget. ,Q-2-' af- 1.4 . --1.1. - J.. avi-..,,,,.. -I 1 Q A ' .e --Q1 . 1.1 5 ' A ,,gEpz?g . ,, ll. , 5 Q 5 Q: 1 'ar fag- . -- V ,- . ir-I Q , - 215 . . Ne are very proud of the fact that our Freshman Class consisting of thirty members was the largest freshman group to enter La Conner High for nnny years Durin the year two of our classmates Kenneth Berger and Jane Baily left this schoo but these losses were balanced by the entrance of Edwin Nelson from Bur- lington and Gene Sly from Everett durin the second semester. Other new menbers tha joined the Freshmen Class at the irst of the year are: Ruby Smith, Laura watkinson, and Richard Poyns. All the other class members are graduates from La Conner Grade School. On Septenber 26th the Sophomore Class put through us a very exciting initiation which left us with the title 'Green Freshmen.' in the end we all agreed that we had loads of fun. Two weeks after initiation we had a return party for the high school. we are ggoud of the fact that a large nunber of our freshman boys-turned out for foot ll and basketbali. The Freshmen girls showed lots of spirit on participating in all school activities. we wish to thank Mnwhittaher our class advisor, and our teacher for help- ing us through our first year of high school.and making it a very happy and suc- cessful year. The Girls Club initiation was held at the first of the year at the Dunlap residence. It was a semi-formal affair. we made quite a bit of money selling pom porns and pop at the football games. Our first party was the Christmas Party, held at the Civic Club. It was a very successful party with everyone having the best time they had had at any high school party they had ever been too. The Harmony Boys furnisred the music for the evening. They performed through the Recording Fund. About the middle of January we started planning for a Valentine Dance. we had several cake sales to raise money to pay for an orches era for the dance. The dance was held February 6th at the Civic Club and we again had the Harmony Boys play. Other activities we undertook this year were the annual Mothers Tea, and the Football-Basketball Banquet. we presented a style show to our mothers and also a short program in honor of them. we served a dinner to the boys and presented a short program. All of us are proud of the splendid record that our Girls Club has nade this year. A BOYS CLUB A meeting was called at the first of the school year by Mr.Rennord for the purpose of organizing a boys club. Mr.Rennord was appointed as the Boys' Club Advisor. Several of the County Boys' Club meetings were attended by the President and his officers. Because of the fact that the Boys' Club was organized for the first ting , we participated in on a few activities. we hope to have active Club next I' RCI-I A ND !.E'l l'ERMEN LETTERMAN JOHN DENTON LANDY JAMES KAREN JENSEN NONTE HANLEY GEORGE BAILEY BARBARA ALLEN GERRY DUNLAP JERRY MCGRATH FRITZ KLEISATH KEITH JOHNSTON KENNETH NOKELBY TORCH HONOR SOCIETY ED FOHN JOE FOHN LANDY JAMES KAREN JENSEN MONTE HANLEY GERRY DUNLAP DENNIS LORDAN NORVAL CHARLES DALE NELSON JOHN BURKE RALPH EATON EDFMW DENNIS LORDAN BRUCE MCCORMICK DARRELL BASSFORD RICHARD LOYNES CHESTER RUTHRUFF BOYD Z I MMERMAN KEITH JOHNSTON MARIAN NYSTROM VALERIA WHITTAKER SHIRLEY ANNE NELSON LOIS HEGGEN FRED FOHN ROBERT LUNGAARD JUNIV R-SIENIVR PLA' The Junior Senior play this year was called 'Daffy Dills' was presented on December 16th, in the high school gymnasium under the direction of Mr. Austin Royal. The family who learn of the new stepmothers arrival, plan to play mean tricks on her in hopes she will get fed up and go back to St. Louis. Their Cousin Maude from Peoria is also expected to arrive any moment.and she gets there first. The Dills think she is the new stepmother and play all the tricks on her. She has heard all about them from the next door neighbor Mr. Hoggles, and has planned far worse ones, making herself be the meanest stepmother on record. ' when Cousin Maude arrives Cthe real stepmotherl she is sweet, lovable, and kind and immediately makes a big hit with the family. ' Excitement prevailed in the old gym the night of March 12th, for it was the night of the Annual Benefit Carniva . Colorful booths with barkers crying out as people patronized their booths added to the excitement. The fish pond caused the younger generation much excitement. Some of the older people had chances to show their skills in shooting baskets and throwing gaseba ls. The penny pitch was loads of fun for both young and old as was the art game and ring toss. Many were awed by the mystery of the fortune teller, who turned out to be Mrs. Oakes. Bingo was a carnival favorite. After partici- pating in all these various entertainments one could expect to be hungry, so the food booth was very active all evening. we wish to thank Mr. Nelson, for his help in building the booths: Mr. Royal, for his advice: and Mrs. Oakes, who was a swell sport about the whole affair. JUNIV R'S!-INIVI iii OM The Country Club, tastfully decorated with thousands of daffodils ser- ved as a perfect background for the Junior-Senior Prom. It was held Friday evening, April Znd. Under the supervision of Mrs. Oakes, the capable advisor of the Junior Class, the decorating conmittee turned the spacious ballroom into a place d beauty. Daffodils in vases and baskets brightened the tables and corners. An arbor covered with greenery and flowers provided an interesting entry. l wayne 8aumgardner's Orchestra furnished the music for this, one of the delightful social events of the school year. FV V TBA LL-BA SKE' Bi-LL Bi- NQUE' The Girls Club held the annual Football-Basketball Banquet again this year in the hall way downstairs of the high school building. The call was answered at once and the result was one of the finest gymnasiurns in the county. It has the largest playing floor and the largest seating capacity in Uhe county. The floor is made of concrete covered with an emulsion and then as lt t'l playing surface. All the lines are inlayed so they will never cone o f. I The gym itself will seat over a thousand people and when the balcony is finished it wlll probably seat fifteen hundred people. The newest backboard is used, It is fan shaped and is nude of natal. At first the floor was slippery but that has been corrected and a fan has been in- stalled to keep the moisture off the floor. lf it had not been for the outside he.lp of people the gym could not have been completed for the basketball season. when ggople speak of the La Conner gym, we can be proud to the fact that it is the s gym in Skagit County and that it was built by the citizens of La Conner. 4 41215 -M59 Conner Conner Conner Conner Conner Conner Conner Conner Lake Stevens Sultan Langley Coupeville Concrete Darrington Mt. It started out with us beating the first two games and then with a let- down and losing 10 to 1 against Concrete. A great number of the underclass men have turned out this year and are really oing well. At the end of this season and next year they should improve and we should have another good team. we hope to finish up this season as well as we started out. Under the capable supervision of Mr. Whittaker the girls have learned a variety of calistenics that have helped them in all sports. Basketball is the favorite sport and tennis is a close second. Most of the Freshmen girls knew very little of the rules concerning basketball at the beginning of the year: but now it's an entirely different story. The Sophomore girls have played basketball, tennis, badminton, and volley-ball: the less versatile freshmen have played basketball, tennis, and dodge-balL A variety of games will be played in preparation of 'Play Day which is held annually in Mount Vernon. An enthusiastic group will represent La Conner. The girls are doing fine in extra-curricular sports and their points are steadily increasing. At this rate their goal will soon be reached.
