You receive separate scores for the verbal and mathem. of the SAT. SAT-verbal subscores (reading comprehension and vck., re on a scale of 20 to 80. TSWE (Test of Standard Written English) scores ported from 20 to 60+. The tests have no passing or failing scores, and they are not scored on a curve — that is, the scores of other students who took the test with you had no effect on how you did. Percentile ranks, however, do show you how well you did compared with students who look the test in the past. Your percentile ranks are given directly below your current scores and tell you the percentage of students in the group specified whose scores were lower than yours. For example, if your SAT-ver- bal score is at the 45th percentile of college-bound seniors, you scored higher than 45 percent of all college-bound seniors who took that test any time while in high school. (See pages 3-6 for more information and tables of percentile ranks.)
