In option, you will no longer experience long and boring 100 minute periods, but instead. Option classes, led by Ted Richardson and Dennis Sanchez, are short and filled with excitement and adventure. Also, not only are required classes offered, but many unusual courses as well. One can take classes in rock fighting, garding, plant recognition, music appreciation as well as flight elevation. The excite- ment, however, doesn ' t end in class, because when not in class option students can be found hiking or taking bts. Academic Decathlon The La Canada High School Olympic Decathlon team won second place in sweepstakes in recent competition among competing high schools in Los Angeles County. Silver medals were awarded to the team of Kim Callister, Elizabeth Calciano, Amy Coffey, Scott Williams, George Rappard, and Wendy Wade. The alternate Team composed of Jackie Dubin, Inger Feeley, and Greg Crawford received Olympic pins for their achievement. Four students received individual awards. Kim Callister received an Olympic pin for highest honors in mathematics, Elizabeth Calciano won for social studies, and Amy Coffey won in both literature and mathematics. Preparation for the decathlon began last May for most team members. The team, coached by Jim McDonnell, spent exhaustive hours in outside research and self-testing. The La Canada Booster Club sponsered financial services for the activity. Mr. McDonnell and the Academic Decathlon crew are busy with last minute preparations.
