LASALLE HIGH SCHOOL-NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. EDITOR BERNICE KUC A CO-EDITOR SUSAN GUNZELMANN BUSINESS EDITOR PATRICIA KOMORA DEDICATION As we graduate from LaSalle, we leave behind a variety of people who compose our LaSalle family. This year, two family members are recognized as being so vital to us that they have been woven into the pattern of LaSalle. As life goes on there will undoubtably be graduates in the years to come who may miss the opportunity to witness the valuable input these individuals have had upon our school. The staff of the Ongiara hopes that our dedication will grant them a permanent place in our thoughts, as their actions and attitudes are hereby preserved forever. Both of these special people have different roles in the operation of our school, but each faces their job with a complete effort, desire and involvement. At times, their jobs expose them to controversy. Their personalities allow them to match this onus of command with an awareness of the general good. Rl L.. vu 11 Q. Yip N MQW -if-Q 2 Each of these individuals has a dedication for their work and a love for the people they meet. Both possess a special understanding which helps them work in cooperation with the people around them. Their combination of patience, wisdom and guidance has earned our admi- ration and respect. In the LaSalle tradition, they acted for the good of the school and everyone concerned. Repayment of this kind of dedication may be equaled in the spirit of our Ongiara '76 dedication. This dedication will have to hold all our memories and will have to serve as our thank you to them. Both have lived by the motto, It is better to give than to receive , but for one day that will have to change. As of today, June 4, 1976, they will receive the recognition they deserve. Good moming, we'll proceed. May I have your attention pleasef' THE 1976 ONGIARA IS OFFICALLY DEDICATED TO MRS. GLORIA TONETTI AND MR. CHARLES BARBER. Though separated with half of the class at the Junior High and the other half at the LaSalle Senior High, we began to show spirit right from the beginning in all our endeavors. For those of us who remained at L.S.J.H.S., Mr. Joe Contento was our advisor and the following students were elected to hold class offices: Julie Corsaro, President, Terry Manning, Vice- President, Kathy Custode, Recording Secretary, and Charlie Pitarresi, Corresponding Secretary. Later that year, Charlie was elected as Student Council President by the entire student body. Cindy Kledjys was then appointed to fill his position as secretary. Meanwhile, back at the Senior High, with Mr. Duane Witkop as advisor, elections were held, with the following results: Elaine Villani, President: Diane Wahler, Vice-President, Mary Panosian, Recording Secretaryg Kathy Kryzkoski, Corresponding Secretary, Bernie Kuca, Treasurer, and Alisa Pucci, Historian. Joan Stipp had the honor of being Homecoming Princess, representing the Freshman Class in the Queen's Court. Presenting an excellent rendition of Sesame Street in the Variety Show, we placed a close second to the Seniors. Following the tradition, we presented the Senior Class with creative centerpieces for their Class Day Banquet. In our Sophomore year, we were once again united and were led by our newly elected class officers: Bernie Kuca, President, Eda Mascaro, Vice-President, Kathy Custode, Recording Secretary, Annette Bongiovanni, Corresponding Secretary, Laurie Marshanke, Treasurer, and JoAnne Weber, Historian. Eda Mascaro coordinated our Homecoming Activities. Kathy Custode was Sophomore Homecoming Princess. Sue Gunzelmann was Chairperson for our Christmas Decorations Project. A prontable magazine sale was one of the projects which increased the funds in our class treasury. Sharon Giarrizzo and Sue Gunzelmann headed the committee which organized our part of Class Day '74's activities, including the decoration of the auditorium in the colors of the Senior Class, and the presentation of flowers to the Class Day Queen and her court. 000g0000Q000va0 000900 q0Q00.,a0o hoalooogoaoo ooooQoo00Q 0CQ'00' 'OOO In our Junior year, our officers, as voted by the class were Eda Mascaro, President, Sue Gunzelmann, Vice-President: Patti Davis, Recording Secretaryg Diane Chiappone, Corresponding Secretaryg Laurie Marshanke, Treasurer, and Eileen McNally, Historian. During Homecoming Week, Julie Corsaro was chosen as Princess, and we participated in the Junior-Senior Girls football game. Under the coaching of Joel Holka we fielded a great effort but were unable to stop the senior girls. They defeated us 12-6. Later in the year we challenged the then seniors to a basketball game in which our guys also took part under their coach, Charlie Pitarresi. The Class of '76 also took part in the annual Christmas Decorations Competition under the director of Chairperson Sharon Giarrizzo. As a class, we found time for enjoyment and fun at a winter picnic at Fort Niagara. A summer picnic, with cooperation from the sophomores, was held at Beaver Island State Park. We helped make Class Day memorable for the Seniors by serving them breakfast and lunch, and presenting gifts to the Class of '75 Court at the Class Day Assembly. At that assembly we also began our Senior Year at LaSalle with the announcement of the class olhcers: Eda Mascaro, President: Jeff Harvey, Vice-Presidentg Mary Ann Galeziowski, Recording Secretary: Cyndi Williams, Corresponding Secretary, Laurie Marshanke, Treasurerq and Julie Corsaro, Historian. Our first activity as Seniors was the Junior-Senior Girls football game, during Homecoming Week, in which we again showed a determined and spirited effort under head coach Jeff Harvey. We lost. Later that week Julie Corsaro was crowned Homecoming Queen, with Laura Davis and Arlene Nuzum as members of her court. Our entry in the Christmas decorations competition, organized by Karen Bottom, Karen Drozek, and Jayme Gray, was a tremendous success, and placed a close second in the judging. Our Class Day was held on June 4, with all classes helping to make it the most memorable day for The Class of 1976. The final activity as a class was the Prom at the Parkway - Ramada Inn on June ll, 1976. Graduation ceremonies on June 26, 1976 at the Niagara Falls International Convention Center marked the end of our high school careers. Thus began the second phase of our days to live, laugh and love 1976 egeqoeneg, OOIQQOOOOPIOCQQOIOO .ooo 3 . z 1 THE FOLLOWING SENIOR PICTURES WERE RECEIVED TOO LATE FOR THE SENIOR DEADLINE. l f e E Nw.. Charles Byrd Lisa S. DeSimone Katherine Wagner - UNDERCLH55 We have observed these students aspiring to the Bi-Centennial greatness of the Class of '76, often find themselves in the middle of things with a long struggle before them. At the end of their trials, we hope they may someday find a place next to the superior Senior Class. To aid their orientation in this regard, we place the Underclass Divider ten giant steps hence fpages 88-891 midway through their section in the 1976 Ongiara. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS The staff on Ongiara 1976 realizes this publication could not be possible without the help of many. Our sincere gratitude goes to Mr. 8: Mrs. Paul Longin, their daughter Vonda, and their assistant Tom. Working with them was a rewarding and enjoyable experience. Besides their excellent quality of photog- raphy, their patience, suggestions, and human touch will be long remembered. The expertise of Mr. Reimers, our representive from the Western Yearbook Publishing Co. will al- ways be appreciated. At times, we found the services of the following people extremely valuable. We would like to thank: Mr. Edwin Karwasinski for financial matters, Mrs. Gloria Tonetti and her office compatriots for their patience and offered helpg Dr. Marius Risley for his expertise and the occassional use of his roomg and last but not least, Mrs. Josephine Morell, our clean- ing lady for leaving room 333 until last. Special recognition goes to Sharon Giarrizzo and Linda Kline for the cover design and various art- work throughout the book, and Mary Rose Franj- oine, a member of the staff, who was absent at picture time. Deadlines could not be met without the willing- ness of the faculty to allow staff members to miss occassional classes. For this we are grateful. A special thanks to Mr. William Sdao for his understanding and guidance. And yes, Mr. Brian Swayze, our advi- sor, for his hours of devoted . . .??? Finally to you, the LaSalle Family, for your suggestions, support and purchase of this yearbook. s s.,,. ,, ,. ,,,, , ,,,,.,.,,,..,...,,,. ........,.,.....,.....M-..---.ww-M-W O ng... .... ...wg .... LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT We, the Grand and Illustrious Class of 1976, being of the soundest mind and memory of those classes, whether predecessors or successors, which shall have passed through the hallowed halls of LaSalle Senior High, do hereby grant and bequeath in our usual magnanimous modus operandi to the parties enumerated below, however undeserving they may be, the following diverse and multifarious articles, although it is understood that the echoes of our presence alone is enough to suffice those we depart from at our revered and eminent educational institution: ARTICLE I To the administration and faculty we leave gratitude and appreciation for the guidance ,of our four-year reign. ARTICLE II To our Class Advisor, Mr. Duane Witkop, we leave our thanks for the time and energy he spent advising us. We leave, as well, a lifetime Blanket Insurance Policy covering all high risks such as walkingf' In addition, we proudly leave him a green-dotted Swiss tuxedo. ARTICLE III To the egocentric junior class, though inherently inferior to our intelligence, talent, and dominance, we leave enough make-up and costume jewelry to cover this characteristic and undistinguishing trait. We also leave wall-size mirrors in strategic points around the school so that one can behold for oneself the massive size of one's head, and the proportionately large opening below the nose. We also leave the juniors with the thought that suggests the true philosphy of the meaning of life: You may have the brawn, but we have the brains, and it's what's upstairs that counts. ARTICLE IV To the Now-You-See-It-Now-You-Don't sophomore class, we leave some of our tact and diplomacy for dealing with the obstinate and pertinacious juniors, along with a giant-sized hat pin to be used to burst the junior's bubble, in case it is allowed to surround the entire school campus. so. Qoooqamia ll0'a.900a.... S' oosooooaoiofgoooq .occ o,q,Qlq0e oo, ARTICLE V To the meek and humble freshmen class, we leave a case of Infra-Rub for the severe cases of stiff necks they will contract when trying to catch a glimpse of their idols, the '76 Seniors. We also leave LaSalle to this insignificant group with the hopes that someday soon they will discover the true value of this institution.
