With the publishing of this yearbook, the students of LaSalle wish to extend to Dr. Small, the retiri-ng Superintendent of Schools, aur heartiest and warmest wishes of good luck in his future endeavors. Dr. Small has been our Superintendent of Schools for thirteen years, from l945 to l958. Being educated at Pennsylvania State, Chicago University, Cornell and the University of Buffalo, Dr. Small has served as a vocational instructor prior to his appointment to the administrative branch of the school system. ln addition to his school career, Dr. Small has been a past president of New York State Vocational Education Association, New York State Teachers Association, New York State Council of City and Village Superintendents and Niagara Falls Rotary Club as well as a member of Phi Delta Kappa, Regents Advisory Commission in Industrial Education and the Regents Advisory Commission in Health and Physical Education. Under the leadership of Dr. Small the Niagara Falls School System has striven to instill in its pupils the true ideals of higher education. Dr. Small has installed new programs, brought forth new ideas in education and has provided a growing school system for a growing Niagara Falls. Our own school is a symbol of Dr. Small's contribution to our city and community. To Dr. Small, we the students, faculty and parents of LaSalle, say thank you for a good job and best of luck to you. FOREWCRD Once again, we come to the end of another school year. As Seniors, this marks the last of our years in high school, and we pause to contemplate about what will happen in the future. We approach a new doorway - one that opens upon the world. Until now, our world has been small, but in a few years, it can be as small, or as large as we are capable of making it. We will go our different ways and enter all walks of life. We are not able to pierce the shadowy future, and so we do not know the part that we will play in it - our problems, our contributions and our aspirations. The following pages are a record - a record which, in the ensuing years, will bring into sharp focus the shadows and silhouettes of yesterday's memories. Read it, and remember your Alma Mater. :U lt is with great esteem that we, the Senior Class of l958, dedicate this yearbook to Mr. C. Edgar Barlow and Mr. Kenneth Rowe. Mr. C. Edgar Barlow, an English teacher at LaSalle High School for many years, has aided us in the development of our minds, while Mr. Kenneth Rowe, long connected with the Niagara Falls Physical Education Department, has assisted us in the development of our bodies. Because we feel that both of these phases are equally important, we believe that these fine men should be recognized for their outstanding achievements. During his teaching career after graduating from Niagara University, Mr. C. Edgar Barlow, a very versatile leader, has guided our debating teams, usher staffs, and stage crews. Perhaps his best known work in extracurricular activities has been that of directing numerous variety shows and school plays that have been overwhelming successes. Arsenic and Old Lace, The Merry Widow, and Annie Get Your Gun are but a few of the challenging stage productions that Mr. Barlow has helped to bring to the students of LaSalle. Mr. Barlow's outside activities are known by all, but his fine work as a teacher of English is known best by those students who have been in his classes, and who have been swayed by him towards a better under- standing and appreciation of the English language, dramatics, literature and effective speech. Mr. Barlow's dynamic drive during his twenty-eight years of teaching, in attempting to create in his students a will to think, and to work hard and to take interest in cultural subjects has left them better prepared to cope with the problems facing them in future life.
