I Am Proud mm ' 1 tH ' ■ HI ' ' ' -, In these days of patriotic enthu- siasm, I find myself moved by the spirit. The sight of the American flag instills the pride that I wasn ' t quite sure was there. I catch myself smiling when I encounter one of South Bend ' s renovated fire hydrants. It no longer is a lifeless object, but has become a symbol of the city ' s willingness and pride to participate in the nation ' s bicen- tennial. I am glad that my forefathers were around two hundred years ago to have enough pride to pur- sue their dreams of a strong, inde- pendent country. Now they are gone and someone is needed to carry on this dream. I accept the challenge; I am proud. We ' veOnly Just Begun 7

I Have A Hold On Today As a member of the younger gener- ation, I am still growing and learning. ' Even so, l,JDelieve I am an important part of now. My beliefs and actions may be different from many, but I stick to them. I refuse to be molded by others, i want to make the most of what I have. When I look back to earlier times and see how youth was then, pro- tected from society ' s evils, I want to believe they never had it so good. Is this possible? Today, many more young people are involved in impor- tant roles of society. They suddenly become adults. I also know the ugly things that are going on with youth today. There are more temptations for them to over- come. Society ' s morals toward drugs, alcohol, and sex have drastically changed. Much more is accepted today that would have been horrifying to the past ages. It is my choice as to my life and what is best for me. I know what I am looking to as my goal and I can only hope it will turn out to be what is best for me in my time. In my own way; have a hold on today. »Lt « V 4 ' i - N r i i ..-. •■• la ' 4 i A ' I SlSn. ' I iif «.(9rj n. - ' g ' [Tt0t N5PllP iihwiv vuaiiis! A k. ' NbHs ¥ IPIP ' B M ■ ' ■ ' - y . 1
