Activities 97 High Button Shoes High Button Shoes under the direction of Mr. James Wright, Mr. John Vogel and Mr. Zeal Fisher, was an over- whebning success. The musical was pro- duced in a record time of five weeks. All participants worked long and hard, practices being held daily, sometimes for as long as five to six hours. With the story revolving around Harrison J. Floyd, portrayed by Larry Hill, things from sunken land to beauty mud were pushed onto unsuspecting residents of New Brunswick, New Jersey. Included in the comical plot were easily flat- tered, flighty birdwatchers, a very hot version of the tango, and of course, love. The characters portrayed by the young actors and actresses were done with originality and feeling, bringing a full house to the Friday night show and a standing ovation on Saturday. High But- ton Shoes was indeed one of the best shows put on in the history of LaSalle. 98 . . . Many stu- dents went to the airport to see the President ' s arrival, and many traveled to River Bend Plaza to get a glimpse, possibly for the first time, of a Presi- dent. Several students went even farther than the River Bend Plaza, and obtained official press passes for the news confer- ence Ford gave at Notre Dame University. Beautiful weather contributed to the absence of many LaSalle students, but those who did see the President will not forget the feehng, good or bad. I Activities 115 spirit Week Becoming Traditional The 1975 Spirit Week at LaSalle got off to a rousing start with the decoration of homerooms and the beginning of the Beautiful Legs campaign. The middle of the week brought the anticipated 50 ' s day. Participation was high and the spirit lived right on through the end of the week and the traditional pep assei- bly. Teachers braved the razzing of stu- dents and became cheerleaders for a day, representing the oldies but the goodies. Mrs. Johnson ' s sophomore homeroom was announced as the win- ner of the decorating contest, and Fred Koehler was voted as having the most beautiful legs. Scarlet and black were worn by students as a symbol of loyalty to the Lions, putting a fine touch to the end of this Spirit Week. 116 Activities 117 (a) Audio-Visual Club: Bernard Kilbride, Jeff Wallis, Bob Fortin, Sean Kilbride, Dave Mays, Marsha Cox, Jim Beyrer, Mr. Hoevel. The season ' s opener against Adams was a perfect shutout. LaSalle crossed the goal line twice, but Adams couldn ' t keep the ball long enough to score. Lions Play For The Top 124 The next three games fell into place and gave the Lions three consecutive wins against Marion, Jackson, and Kokomo Haworth. The Jackson game broke a long-standing tradition in which no team ever kept the Wagon Wheel for more than one year. The Lions beat the Tigers, 21-7, and rolled the wheel home to stay! The Lions ' winning streak ended with a disappointing loss to Penn, 28-27. But with spirit and determination the Lions bounced back and took the next three, showing everyone that they ain ' t seen nothin ' yet . Athletics 125 N i H a O - - £. The Lions volleyball team got off to an encouraging start with a first game vic- tory over St. Mary ' s. The rest of the sea- son showed great progress for the team and they took the sectional game away from Washington, winning 16-14 and 15-5. The second game was a disap- pointment to the girls as Riley defeated them 15-3, 15-8. The final record for the season was 6 wins and 4 losses. The B-team had a tomney loss to Marian but showed im- proving skill, promising a better season for the coming year. Athletics 133 Three seniors and second year coach George Griffith guided the LaSalle bas- ketball team through a long, tough sea- son. While lacking student support, the Lions kept fighting and were rewarded with the exciting upset over the school on the hill , St. Joe. Finally regaining the backing of the student body, the Lions continued on only to fall into the hands of the Washington team in the sectionals. Although appearing disap- pointiing, the year can be labeled as one of learning and growth. Opponent Goshen E.G. Year Has Ended (a) Yearbook Staff: Seated-Julie Borntrager, Mrs. Sally Mower, Cindy Boyles. Standing— Diane Kar- molinski. Sue Hartman, Janice Burkus, Cheryl Wibberis, Nancy Zielinski, Denise Woznicki. : year has gone quickly, ana J cannot say whether tJiat is good or bad. I do know that the staff has come upon many problems this year, and we have faced tliem as best as we could. No one can really know these particular feel- ings of pressure, defeat, and hopeless- ness until they work on a staff such as ours. But we also learned to care, to love, and to look fartlier than we ever thought we could. We know there is no possible way to completely satisfy as many people as there are in LaSdlle High School. We only hope that each of you will be able to find something that makes you think, makes you love, and makes you appreciate everything aroimd you for what it is, and what its ' potential says it could be. We have learned to do this, and hope that you will in the same way find something to achieve this in the 1975 Lantern. ■Pditor-«n- ' ]hief Photography Credits . . .
