4 Geraldine is just as unsure as Jack in her choice of future occupation. Her involvement in the Fine Arts depart- ment has made her seriously consider a career in music. She is in the Concert Glee Club and the Orchestra (both are well known throughout the city) and is considering taking Harmony, a music theory class, and Music Appreciation. Though she is still only in Basic Art, Geraldine has hopes of progressing to painting and more advanced art courses. Geraldine can jump from Pi- casso to Politics in an English course deaUng with comparison of different pohtical systems or explore the world of communication through Modem Media. If she wishes, she can concen- trate on one topic in sociology during her senior year in the Independent Study of the Social Sciences-the only study course of its type in the city. Without the aid of a sincere and able teaching staff. Jack and Geraldine wouldn ' t be able to explore the educa- tional possibilities at LaSalle. The most diversified curriculum and modem equipment are useless without a trained and dedicated staff of adminis- trators, teachers, and counselors.

Architectu and DE ai choices, yet he is also considering a teaching career. Cadet Teaching, a program for seniors to aid in schools throughout the city, would give him a practical preview of teaching. If he does not decide to teach, two English courses that would benefit in his col- lege world are Essay Writing and the Research Paper and Focus on Lan- guage. Both are designed to improve and perfect the students expression of ideas in clean and concise writing. En- gineering also interests Jack and the relatively new Project Physics would give a theoretical look at physics. Jack can now devise a program of study that will enable him to touch upon the ideas that interest him.

Both Jack and Geraldine could be part of the 53% of juniors and seniors who have jobs. If Jack cadet teaches, he will be one of the 15% who have school- affiliated jobs. The large number of students with part-time jobs indicates a lessening of full-time students. As would be expected, two-thirds of the seniors and one-third of the juniors leave school early— many before 2:00 pm. It would seem that with this trend in decreasing full-time students, a cut in curriculum would be logical. Yet, La- Salle is increasing its course offerings every year to enable each student to benefit from the time spent in school, no matter how brief In other words, LaSalle is adapting to the students, not the student to LaSalle. This is an im- portant factor in the search for a near- perfect education— an education for the masses, an education for the individual.
