Sometimes we get apart and lonely and forget to listen (to each other) (to ourselves) sometimes we go through our people jammed halls feeling a loneliness possible only in crowds. Sometimes people can come from outside and tell us that within us lies a towering song and that we could sing it we want to believe he understands so we try to listen so we can talk (so we can sing). 1 stand in the Suddenly, 1 see us crowd looking out at the team standing here yellfighting at the band in one time, one voice and notice (funny) how they seem unified how can it be? we know what the guys meant when they said let ' s get it together, people. Looking down a dark empty hall — quiet and sterile the walls cry out their lonliness the floor begs for footsteps the air for some sound — at the end a glass door sunstreaming in but the light can ' t seem to drown the silence. 1 i f 1 . It didn ' t take long for the new faces to become familiar and the hope common to everyone. Practice at times was a drudgery and the work was gruelling. Even the best of friends were at each other ' s necks. This is the way it needs to be for success to come out of the work. As the season progressed the successes came, the practices had paid off. When the wrestler stepped out on the mat all the difficult days were out of his mind, but he reflected the effort he exerted during those days in his success or failure on the mat. Problems Plague Tankers This year ' s varsity swim team was represented by many new faces. Foremost was that of new coach, Ron Eberhard. Coach Eberhard put together a respectable team this year with a good nucleus for next year. As Coach Eberhard gains experience and develops the underclassmen into strong swimmers, there is little doubt that LaSalle tankers will become one of the better teams in the city. The tankers were led this year by captains Dan Altman and Don Miller. Dan set a school record in the 50 yard freestyle. Don spe- cialized in the backstroke. Two other top seniors were Ken Luzney, high point man, and Bob Cerney, the only member of the team to qualify in the sectionals. Varsity Swii mming Record Opp. LH.S. Sometimes it ' s nice just to sit in a basket and smile or to stand in the rain and get wet or to reflect on good times and it ' s enough just to be still and someday we ' ll look back again and be glad that we took time out to remember and to sit in a basket and to enjoy . . . Jr. We run towards the light alone and together finding ecstasy in being and knowing we can find truth and smiling — We walk and are followers and leaders each in turn puzzling over obstacles and later reflecting on other moments and smiling — We hurry frustrated and eager to change and be changed pausing to enjoy the golden things and laughing — Abraxas In my role this year as its President, the Senior Class be- came more a part of me spiri- tually than I was of it physically. I ran the gamut of emotions. My feeling for this year had the same kind of disturbing yet refreshing ambivalence that Emil Sinclair in the book Demian by Hermann Hesse had for his painting, We stood before it and began to freeze inside from the exertion. We questioned the painting, berated it, made love to it, prayed to it: We called it mother, called it whore and slut, called it our beloved, called it Abraxas Shawn Seegar we are seniors we stand on the brink of a life trembling on the edge of freedom we are not cold we are not tired we are not afraid of life- only anxious, we want to reach out and to care and we are trying to be authentic. 1971 Lantern Staff All ' s Well That Ends Well ' William Shakespeare Staff Editor-in-chief . . .
