Pelican State is not a classroom oriented pro- gram, but instead, it cen- ters around the government and its functions. Through- out the week everyone was drilled in and experienced the basics of government at all three levels: city, par- ish, and state. Hundreds of students throughout the state attended this pro- gram, which also resulted in new friendships and acquaintances . ' Presidential Classroom Held in Washington Presidential Classroom is sponsored each year to give young Americans the opportunity to encounter and explore the many fac- ets of our American gov- ernment. Through personal involvement and interac- tion with various institu- tions and leaders of the nation, the student comes in contact with the issues. concerns and challenges involved in the political process.
