It gives in- dividuals a chance to compete with other schools. The boys who devoted their time, e-Hott, and talents to this sport were great assets to their Alma Mater. The mile relay team consisting of Kilgore, Buttrum, Beck, and Jones lines up. Low-hurdler Doug Messer and high-lmrdler Martin Huckabee demonstrate this form. L.H.S. was very thrilled to win the state football championship. The whole town was very proud. Here we see representatives of Callaway Mills presenting to the football captain and cc-captain the beautiful score board towels. The school year 1958-1959 will be remembered in the years to come as one of the greatest years in L.H.S. sports history. First, the Granger football team won the AAA state championship by defeating Decatur 26-12 in the state playolfs. During the entire season, the football team suffered only one defeat, that coming at the hands of Moultrie High School. The basketball team also enjoyed a very fine year, as they finished second in the region and then advanced to the finals of the state basketball playoffs. The team hn- ished the regular season with a record of eighteen wins and only two losses. The only other defeat came at the hands of Brown High in the finals of the state playoffs. Also, track, one of the minor sports at L.H.S., had a team with the same desire to win as did the teams of the other sports. The track team made a good showing at the annual Columbus Relays and later defeated Lanier High and R. E. Lee High in a three-way meet. The team showed signs of being a contender for region track crown. Granger fans were very proud of the record L.H.S. made, both in the athletic events and in sportsmanship. They were also very proud of the fine coaching staff which did so much to develop this fine record. Good luck in future years, Grangers! Messer carries the Grangers a few yards closer to the state crown. ms . fl Pfzgdzn HMM RYNCE' Y BURSON V zcmpresid MARTHA A SENIOR CLASS NNY- Y ejlf OFFICERS J-ERR Y ANGLIM WW sm era, Jw Rich- Class sponsors-Standing, left to right: Miss ardson, Miss Clark, Miss Owen, Mrs. Freeman.
