LaGRANGE COLLEGE 1948 Quadrangle LaGrange College is happy to be old — basking in the pride of offering 138 years of quality education as Georgia ' s oldest independent college. But being old isn ' t enoughfor LaGrange. It keeps adding and improving facilities and curriculum so it ' s graduates will always have a Margin of Distinction . Growth has been steady as LaGrange emerged from a girls ' school in the early fifties to become a four-year, Methodist-affiliated, co-ed college offering 20 majors which lead to a Bachelor of Arts degree. The College has always had the objective of developing the total person. Its students receive excellent liberal arts educations, with a faculty-student ratio of one to thirteen. Exciting dimensions for extra-curricular activities are available in student government, campus publications, honor societies, intercollegiage and intramural sports, dramatics, music, arts, sororities, and fraternities. Now 600 students study on the campus which is enhanced by the small-town friendliness of LaGrange and stimulated by the proximity of bustling Atlanta, only 70 miles away. A nine million dollar expansion program over the next nine years will double the size of the faculty, provide more classrooms, dormitories, a Fine Arts building and auditorium, library books and the latest teaching aids and equipment. With the help of those who believe young people deserve quality education, LatGrange will reach its financial goal and by 1978 will be serving 1,000 students. As old as 1831 — as new as tomorrow. Elsies Travelogue Each year Elsie sits down at her desk, gazes out the window, and chews thoughtfully on her pencil. She smiles as she records events of the year for the Quadrangle, or her face bears a pensive expression as she puts her piloso- phy of Life into words for the Scroll.
